"I do have the timer on," he said, "but sure." Maybe they'd be done. Maybe Maia liked chewy snickerdoodles better. He was fine with either.
He tossed his iPod onto the table and took Maia's hand before heading to the kitchen.

Oh right, the timer. Maia paused at the oven and turned to steal a kiss. "They're not done," she said. "I love you."

Toby chuckled. What was that for? Rather than let her steal the kiss he met her in the middle, still smiling.

Maia kissed him a second time. "What have you been up to, other than baking?" She asked. Creating deliciousness was great, but she wanted to hear about the rest of Toby's day. "Plotting to take over the world with Peaches?"

Toby chucked. "Sure. The lazy fluffy kitty world." He kissed her again and shrugged. "I went to the gym, I responded to some emails, I baked some cookies." When he'd gotten to a certain age, he'd stopped thinking that his days off were any sort of exciting. They were comfortable and familiar, but mostly the same. At least now he had Maia to spend some of them with.
"How about you?"

"Sounds like a perfect world," Maia teased. "Let's see. I went to Lori's and was held hostage for a while. You really need to give Luca some cooking lessons, he's terrible at it. Tried feeding me cookies. At least, I think they were cookies. They might have been rocks." She made a face.
"I thought I'd have to book an appointment with a dentist." She kissed his cheek.

"I can only teach one hopeless man at a time," Toby teased and smirked, "He'll learn. As for a dentist, you can, but they won't find much. Do your teeth hurt?"
Human doctors were a-ok with selkies luckily. He had to get most of his care out of HQ himself.

"Only a bit," she assured him. It'd mostly surprised her, being unable to sink her teeth into them. "Lori's doing much better," she added. "Maybe we can convince him to teach Luca."

"He really is. He can't bake, though," Toby said, "I think we'll have to provide the baked goods from now on. It might be better for all of us." He added the last part with mock solemnity.

"I know," Maia grinned and shook her head. "Poor Lori." She glanced at the timer. It hasn't gone off it. "What were the emails for?" She asked. "Work related?"

"Of course." He kissed her again. He had more or less forgotten about the cookies and the cinnamon scent wafting through the house. He was more concerned with the affection Maia was giving and the warm-fuzzies budding in his chest.

Maia returned the kiss, and stole a second one. Emails could wait, then. She pulled back only to stroke his hair. "I missed you today," she said.

"I missed you too," Toby replied. He smiled softly to Maia, and then the oven alarm went off. Toby stepped aside to grab some oven mitts and got the cookies onto a cooling rack he had already placed aside so they wouldn't keep cooking.
With that done, he picked Maia up, plopped her on the counter, and kissed her without having to bend down.
