Ashram_VII Kyandai Yes. Living in a very multi-cultural country, almost a third of my HS and college were asian exchange students and being friends with a few, I was always amazed by how quickly they could learn English. I swear, in about six months.. most of them were fluent in it. How is your chinese going, anyway? It seems like it'd be one of the harder languages to learn. Yuri, Japanese and German classes were mandatory at my HS in grades seven and eight. Why those two, I don't know. Haah, my German is even worse than my Japanese. sweatdrop What country do you live in? I'm curious. (or are you American...since we are pretty much a multi-culture country xd ) Oriental people are something else when it comes to learning things...but I can tell you why they're so quick to learn things...discipline and motivation. They're school system is more disciplined and competitive, and the parents are more demanding and encouraging, and the teachers...well...they're very well respected. (especially in Taiwan and China) My Mandarin? Well, its come a long way, thanks for asking. biggrin I've learned most things you need to know if you are a tourist...now I'm starting to learn the structure of the language...quite fasinating really...the way they structure sentences is: Subject - Time - Place - Direct Object A very basic example is instead of saying "Where were you today?" you would say "You today were where?" (Ni jian-tian zai na-li) Oh, I live in Australia. It's great, I love all the different cultures. I'm a little isolated though.. although that doesn't have to be a bad thing. biggrin The sentence structure is what really gets me when it comes different languages. I just can't get it into my head that most languages are in fact 'back to front'. English is hard enough for me, lol. Ni jian-tian zai na-li? I can't even begin to pronounce that. Well done on your dedication. I know I couldn't do it. biggrin

(because I will be the first to tell you any kind of task does xd ) Well, to humor you...I'll try and see if I can write the phrase the way it is pronounced...although I won't be able to show you the way the voice needs to sound...since the language is based on five tones, and if you say a word in the wrong tone, you're saying something completely different. ( xd HARD!!) Ni (Knee) Jian (say Gee-in quickly) Tian (say Tea-in quickly) zai (say "sy" from the word "sythe" or "sigh") Na-li (you would be surprised to hear that this sounds very close to narley as in "Narley Dude!" *old term...very old*)

Yay, I can now claim to be able to say (very roughly) "Where were you today?" in Mandarin! Ah ha! Narly! Thankyou! Uhmm.. Arigato!?

(secretly grins an evil grin for making you feel old domokun domokun domokun ) Really, you can't do anything that was as bad as when I realized my childhood had become retro cool. That was possibly the most crushing blow to my ego I have ever sustained, watching kids half my age walk around with Jem or Rainbow Brite shirts when they're far too young to have seen either when they were on the air. I can only hope to revel in their suffering when Spongebob Squarepants or whatever they like ceases to be cool, only to make a retro comeback ten years later. Oh yes, it shall all come full circle.

Well, nothing makes you feel older when you see 11 and 12 year old girls packing 8 oz. of make-up, a cell phone, and a miniskirt.
The weird thing is pre-teen boys don't really try to look older, as far as I know. They just kind of, hang around until the zits come, the thin mustache sprouts, and their voices start cracking. Always entertaining. sweatdrop

Mmm, sweet Super Mario World, I love how you came out for the GBA, as well as Super Mario Bros 3. I like playing classic Mario games on the bus, it makes me all happy.

I wonder if the person in the EFH who said they'd like to make an Eva music video to Chop Suey because it'd be awesome was serious, or if they were commenting on the fact that there are already like 20 videos of that combination in existance.
I wish it was the second, but suspect it was the first.
