I've been playing the clarinet since 5th grade, and I'm now in 10th. I'm in The Reynoldsburg High School Marching PRIDE(ohio). I'm also in the Wind Symphony, which you ahd to try out for. I tried out in 9th grade and got 2nd chair. I guess you could say there's only one clarinetist in the whole school who's better than me. I play on a Buffet B12, plastic, for marching band, a Buffet E11, wood, for concert band, a Van Doren M13 mouthpiece and a Benode inverted ligature. We recently went to OMEA State MB Finals, and got straight ones! Yayness.

Forgot to mention that we're an AA band and we've gone to States practically every one of the 26 years its been around in Ohio... and my favorite song for the clarinet is Overture to Candide. Has anyone else played it?

I've been playing my clarinet for 8 years now and a Junior in Sullivan's Green Mountain High School Band. I love playing the slow, pretty songs better than the stupidly fast ones that only have 32nd note runs. On of my favorite solos would have to be Csardes! And youxonlyxwish, the Overture to Candide is so much fun to play ^^!

gobuffalow-lol smile i'm playing it for all southern audition ^^ it's easy to site read, so far i can play half the piece in time, i can play almost all rhythms...towards the ending i mess up a bit and i can play the notes and dynamics pretty well but the tempo is keeping me from perfecting it gonk

NaviGal-wow!!! smile do ya think you can give me some tips about the song---i know the cadenza must be something expressed but i'm not usre if i should go with the way my private teacher's way or someone elses sweatdrop

flaming_ninja_dragon-O.O!!! n-never heard of it...wow....that's quite surprising o_<

You should go with what YOU feel belongs there, that is the whole point of the cadenza. If you use what someone else told you they probably have heard it before, just variate and use your skills you have deep down in you. If you love music it will come out for you just fine.

I have a couple questions...

1. Does anyone know some good alto clarinet fingerings for The E above the staff and higher? I've tried the soprano fingerings and they don't seem to work very well.

2. I go extremely sharp on my upper register on contrabass. Any tips on how to bring the note down? (Without pulling out, because then my lowest octave isn't in tune.)

Thanks!

The Cadenza is very passionet, I'd play around with the tempo a bit and dynamics some.

okay smile thanks, usually I play the cadenza as written but with more feeling...maybe I should do the opposite of my private teacher's suggestion...he told me to start out slowly and crescendo as i accelerate, maybe i should start out fast and loud and then and it slowly all the time for the cadenza? I'm gonna experiment a bit, usually i find myself playing the cadenza when i think of showing someone how much i love music...

unfortunately i can't experiment it now, my sis's friends are here and i have to go somewhere gonk

eol- hmmm...did you try looking at the alternate fingerings in books?
