Blushing as she realized that she'd misunderstood Jaice, Chess nodded into the cub's fur "Oh. Sorry, I thought you...well never mind. I let my temper get the better of me. Again." she laughed at herself "Nash helped you? He must think you're worth something...He doesn't like people." she tilted her head, re-examining Jaice with this new information in mind "Normally he just lets people get themselves out of trouble."

Jaice shrugged one shoulder. "I've seen worse tempers, trust me. Besides, there was one point where he nearly went off the back of one of the wagons and underneath the one behind it; I saved him from that, fortunately," he said quietly.

He's got such a think skull, he'd probably bounce... Chess thought, a low chuckle starting in her throat as she saw the image in her head "Well thank you for looking out for my brother." she nodded to him, doing a little bow that annoyed the cub. It pulled at her dress and she winced as it manuevered itself to drape around her shoulders underneath her hair "I have to ask though...why do you care?" Chess scratched the cub's nose with one finger, watching Jaice curiously "No one used to care what happened to the Manelin children and now...both you and Kirama have helped me and my brother. Why? We're not family nor are we close friends."

Jaice chuckled. "Because I know what it's like to live that way; between the time I got out of the Academy and the time I became Chuunin, try guessing how many different senseis I had... it may surprise you," he said quietly. And because you are the future of this village after we're dead and gone, he thought.

Chess shrugged for a moment "I guess." she finally sat down and the cub slid back into her lap. "I'm guessing you didn't have very many. Just because you said you lived like we did." she rubbed her eyes for a moment and sighed.

"I had two different senseis, one of which is in this village right now; the other was Wammy Okazi, whom I haven't seen in a long time," he said quietly. His gaze flicked to Kirama for a moment, a slight smile crossing his face for a moment. He knew if Chessa thought about it, she'd realize who he was referring to. "Wammy was my sensei for about four months, and he trained us all of six times," he muttered, remembering.

"Wammy...Thats kind...Thats a kinda weird name." Chess said softly, wondering if that was a nickname or a real name. She noticed the look Jaice sent to Kirama and almost choked I hope that look wasn't what I thought it was..! "Anyways. How do you recognize someone as a sensei? Is it how long they train you or just that they trained you?"

"The latter, usually, and no... it wasn't what you think; when I became a Genin, it was none other than Kirama who was my sensei," he said dryly, shrugging one shoulder.

Of course he was. Chess swallowed "So its length, not what they teach. Well thats good, I suppose. Otherwise anyone could claim to be a sensei." she moved uncomfortably. "So was Kirama-san a good sensei?" she smiled, watching Kirama out of the corner of her eye, as she spoke to Jaice.

Jaice half smiled. "He was always late and half drunk," he said with a deadpan expression. "Just kidding!! He was a skilled and agile sensei, trust me," he said softly. He shrugged slightly.

Chess laughed lightly, more of a giggle than a laugh "I wouldn't have believed you if you'd stuck with late and drunk. Kirama-san doesn't seem like that at all." she said lightly "Even if he did 'kidnap' me, I wouldn't have believed it." she made quote marks in the air to show she was playing around.

"If I remember correctly, Jaice, you only ever showed up to training about half the time." Kirama said as he pulled off another twig and began to twirl it between his fingers until it was a blur of brown.

Chess giggled, covering her mouth with a hand, as Kirama spoke up Oh yeah. These two get along so well that they don't get along at all. she whistled a soft tune to the cub.

JMan 240 ---------------
"Not so fast, whoever said that she was never any danger?" The clone said with a malicious smirk as in bobbed backwards and in between a few more wires. They were tight to the point that Apollo would have trouble following even with the Byakugan, but that didn't matter. The clone reached out and plucked at a wire. "You've got what you need to be strong. Now there is just the task of giving you some reason to fight from now on." The clone laughed in a sickening tone as it gave the wire a hard yank. The sound of senbon whistling through the air could be heard, as well as the sound of them embedding into something. A dummy was shot from the trees above and back over Apollo's head. Kirama had expertly disguised it with a bit of his own hair and some of the cloth from his cloak to roughly resemble Chessa's form. He had also hollowed out the log that made up the dummy's chest and placed one of Chessa's dolls inside.
To Apollo's newly activated Byakugan it would look like Chessa's silhouette surrounded by blurred, dim, chakra as it moved quickly through the air. The senbon embedded in it glinted as it flew through the air. There was no way that Apollo would be able to adjust to the Byakugan's black and white vision of chakra that fast, meaning fast moving things would blur slightly and any sense of color he possessed would be ruined. That alone would make the dummy effective. And there was no way he would be able to dull out the natural chakra of the surrounding area and focus in only on the dummy. He simply hadn't had enough time to work with the ability. Combine that with everything else and his heightened emotional state and it was the perfect formula for him to over react to something he could not confirm.
Apollo didn't quite understand what was going on ntil he saw the clone move back. "Wait..what are you doing now? I passed your stupid test so I should get her back!" Apollo yelled at the man, his Byakugan still active as he watched the horrid even unfold. As the mans clone plucked the wire Apollo couldn't hold back anymore emotion, all the anger that had built up to this point caused him to snap without a second thought. In Apollo's mind Chessa had been skewered which meant this man had killed her. If he had thought about the situation he would have felt and saw the appearance of Jaice but Apollo was having trouble keeping his cool. With his rage came his chakra, flowing forth from his body in a dark red as his eyes pulsated. His stare was indefinite and the aura he was giving off was one of a mad beast. Apollo rushed forward, using the renge lotus to heighten his speed and appeared directly in front of the clone. Most of the wires in his path had been snipped apart by his excessive movement. Apollo stared at the man, or rather the clone, before pushing his arm forward towards his face. If this connected the clone would disappear most likely and this entire training thing would cease.

Chess heard it faintly, Apollo yelling, and turned her head sharply to stare in the direction Apollo... she pulled the cub up to her chest, holding it close. She closed her eyees tightly and buried her head in its fur Please don't get hurt. she sighed heavily.
