Jenkins returned to the Alpha Base defence perimiter. The marines there were fighting off hordes of grunts and jackles, covie cannon fodder, and the were certinly useing them as that. Sergent Jenkins fire a clip from his BR55 into the oncoming horde and reloaded. Aww...s**t!!!" One of the Scarabs had just crested one of the not-so-distant hills. Jenkins hurridly click on the com. "Lieutenant Mathias! We have a scarab about to bring us a whole world of hell down on us! Sir...?" The sergent looked worried, fire a few more clips in the on comming horde and retreated back to fined the Lt.

He heard Mathias give out the order to the marines in the forest, but none of them where falling back. He hit his com againe and said "Mathias. I'm not sure they can here you. I'll move up to try and get a better signal and give the order againe." He left his spot and ran up and picked up a jackel sheild and got closer and hit his come againe and said "'Squad leaders, maintain position on the base perimeter, pull back your marines if they aren't--" He hoped they would hear it. He felt needlers pelt the sheild and threw his last grande over his head and was rewarded with several screams.

As she moved, Scarlett tried not to look at the ground. Death, screaming, fear....it was everywhere.

"Marines! Fall back! Fall back!" Someone yelled. She looked behind her, and it was clear. Scarlett started running back into the treeline.

Her stomach sank. A sonic howl filled the air. She looked up, distracted by the grim sight of a covenant banshee. A nearby explosion of a plasma grenade brought her back into her senses. The banshee fired, and she sprinted. Plasma splattered the grass a meter behind her. It shook the ground beneath her feet, and she fell, just making it to the treeline. She crawled on hands and knees, still in shock, unable to get on her feet.

"We've got banshees up there!!" She cried. "Goddammit, someone get some rockets in the air!!!"

She wanted to cry, but instead pulled herself to her feet. Although it had just been the most terrifying experience she had had since getting out of training, she would have plenty more horrible memories. Still, the horrible vision of the banshee overhead wouldn't be forgotten.

He was getting on the com againe "Squad leaders, hurry and get your mariens out. Our teams can't give you cover with the thick brush." he had already made his way to the edge of the forest when he heard hunter screams. He had encounterd several in his time. He jumped into the brush with new mags for his BR55 and shoot a grunt in the back of the head and then came up behind a elite and buted him in the back of the head makeing the elite's sheilds flare and fail. Howie then shot two burst into the elites head and watched it's head explode into purple blood. He then found what appeared to be a Squad leader. He looked a little familiar. "Are you Mendez?"

Mendez turned and saw a higher ranking officer behind him "Yes sir. I'm Mendez." He snapped a quick salute and ordered his squad to take cover. "We're kind of busy at the moment, No offense pointed out sir. We're three men short, loaded with mines and heavy ordinance, but we can't hold. we don't have much more ammunition for our rifles."

"We've been trying to send a order to your squads. This order comes straight from Mathisas. Fall back to base, drop any anti-tank mines you can to slow down the wraiths. Break off into two large groups. One group on the western hill under cover, the other group onto the eastern hill also under cover. Lure the covenant down the center corridor and when i give the order, will hit them with everything we got. Do you understand your orders?" He looked at his back in time to kick a jackle to the ground. The jackles sheild flew away and he fired a burst into its head.

Mendez offered a broken smile. "You picked the right man." Riley! Get those mines to the squad! Then get under cover beneath one of those hills!!!" Riley looked confused then snapped back to reality "Yes sir!!!" He hefted his pack and turned to the other officer "I've got you loud and clear sir! We'll be back soon." He turned and ran from hill to hill placing mines as he went. After he finished he reached one of the hills and climbed to the top with some of the leading officers. He lay down across the hill and spotted some of the top officers. "Better give them their space." he watched the rest of his squad place their mines out in the field. "Riley! get your half to the West hill! Smith! Get yours to the east hill and get ready to detonate!"
