Isiah frowned deeply in Q's direction but said nothing at first, sighing. Q didn't have much of a choice. Isiah couldn't take him alone. They both knew that, or so he assumed. Though Kaegan was an alpha he was certainly older.. and.. with the two of them they stood a chance in hell.
So he thought.
"I don't know," he said quickly to the last question, folding his arms tightly over his chest. "When I was banished... obviously.. but I can't say why he'd give you a time limit if he didn't at least want you back. Maybe not into rank, but possibly back into Omega. This is a test. To see if you can survive that long without the pack and without..." He paused. "Help."
He couldn't help himself. He had to help Bornes. The poor idiot really couldn't live on his own. That much was devastatingly clear.

Bornes looked down to his boots, gave out a long breath through his nose. "Sorry I'm such an Dependant, then."
He loosened the grip on his arms and simply crossed them normally over his chest, leaning forward to have his elbows resting on his legs. He closed his eyes and attempted to sleep like that.
He wasn't going to eat any of this, even though he knew he probably should have.
But Isiah had made it so abundantly clear Bornes obviously couldn't do anything for himself, so he'd humor the other man. If Isiah wanted to play Guardian... Let him have at it.

Isiah gave him a funny look. "Dependent isn't the word I would use," he began, slowly, carefully. Q's emotions tore like paper these days. "You just don't seem to understand how important consequences are to Kaegan. To Denziens. Punishment and consequences are a big deal. In the old days," before the fall, he meant. "There wouldn't be second chances like this. He thinks he's being nice to you." Us. "If we are going to try to live like this.. then you need to make more of an effort to understand how we work."

Bornes snorted from his doubled over position. "I knew it was wrong the whole time. I was going to leave the next night, but I suppose I timed it wrongly, and Kaegan was a bit smarter than I gave him credit for. That is all it was."
He turned his head for a moment, then opened his eyes and weakly stood up, only to lie on his side on the hard floor, attempting to fall asleep again.
"If you believe so much in this Denzien way of living, why do you not allow me to learn my own lesson?" He opened his eyes and looked up to Isiah, his voice lowering in volume a bit with the next statement, "why should I bother following rules when I know you will be there to bail me out."

"You were going to leave me? After I saved your a**!?" Isiah stood from the shelf he was leaning against, unfolding his arms, hands folding tightly into fists. "You disgusting little rat! After I..."
He paused to take in the next statement. "You call this?... THIS bailing you out? I call it friendship, you ungrateful ********. I should have left you to rot." He leaned forward to slap Q, hard, across the cheek, the strike quick and without warning before he leaned back with a hiss. "Go ******** yourself with a chainsaw," he hissed, heading back up the stairs.
He couldn't believe he wasted his time helping such an ingrate. Over and over. What a waste.

Bornes watched Isiah's anger flame. Bornes had meant leave the encampment... With Isiah, but there was no point in correcting him now.
The hybrid winced at the slap, a bit confused at why Isiah would bend so far over to slap, and listened as the man cussed him out a bit more and then left.
Bornes sighed and thwapped his tail against the ground. What else should he have expected from saying what he did? Oh well... At least he was alone for now. He closed his eyes again and tried to fall asleep.
If he managed to wake up at sundown, he could get out of here before anyone managed to come back. It'd take at least three hours for Isiah to get back to the town... And three hours back if Kaegan and the others came for him right away-- assuming Isiah turned him in, or Kaegan felt like beating him again.
So that would be about six hours. He hoped his internal clock would wake him at the appropriate time. With a small shiver, it wasn't long before he drifted off to sleep on the floor of the storm shelter. Even though he didn't want to, he knew he'd have to steal some more food to leave here without dying...

Isiah arrived at camp four hours later, tired. His arms ached from carrying Q all that way, and with each heartbeat he regretted helping the hybrid. He began to regret pairing up with him at all.
There was no denying he'd become increasingly fond of him as they had spent time together... privately or not. But he couldn't... he couldn't stand their awkward father/lover codependency. Taking care of Q and being his boyfriend was a dual life he couldn't handle.
Kaegan was outside with his ceta and beta. He had not expected Isiah to return, and his eyes- along with the two with him- followed him as he headed back to their shelter, alone. Kaegan looked back toward the path he'd trekked, snorting once. The other two with him waited for an order.
"Leave it."

Four hours passed. Then six. Then a few more, until it was ten o'clock at night. And that was when Bornes got up. He'd overslept, but he didn't see anyone around, and at that he gave a sigh of relief.
His eyes looked about in the darkness, his body shivering slightly from his entirely empty stomach, still quite sore from what had happened earlier. Bornes looked about at the labels, trying to figure out what he could carry without a bag that would last him.
Everything was in cans or jars. No use to him on the move. He grunted and found a jug of water, of which he drank from. He felt less guilty taking the water, knowing Kaegan had his own source.
He held the jug with both hands, still shivering slightly although he was not cold. Through his gulps he thought he heard someone coming. He stopped drinking and held the open jug in his hands, lid between his first two fingers on his left hand. He looked up to the door of the shed, his green eyes giving a faint glow as he tried to discern if anyone really was approaching.
Although he could not see anyone, he decided to play it safe and back into a far corner of the shed, hoping it was dark enough there for human eyes to not tell the difference between a body that was there, or the shadows playing games with the human eye. He quickly slipped the lid on the water and put the gallon at his feet.

Kaegan's boots made heavy thuds as he walked down the stairs into the shelter, the steady click-click-wind of a wind up flashlight hissing before light poured into the tiny space. He frowned when he found Q there, huddled in the corner like a dog who'd been in the trash. "Put my water down," he hissed. "And get on your feet."
He set his feet should Q try to fight him. He was ready. He'd been ready, of course. The boy had failed to respect his authority thusfar however, and he was sure it would take a broken bone or two before he'd respect him, since apparently the bruise he'd left on his belly wasn't enough to keep him away from his food.

The glow in Bornes' eyes dissipated as Kaegan's boot thudded down the stairs, and he held his breath at the sound of something unfamiliar. Only later did he realize it powered a flashlight.
He hissed and closed his eyes, turning away with his hand in front of his face to shield his most precious possessions. The water was already at his feet, and the hybrid already standing, not that being found out in his corner made him any more comfortable.
"Didn't leave soon enough, I guess," he thought to himself.
His free right hand, which was toward the wall, instinctually clutched at his gut. That seemed like Kaegan's favorite place to target.

"You don't learn," he offered quietly, leaning back against the wall, pointing the flashlight up the stairs to guide him out. "After you," he hissed, eyebrow quirked upward. He let Q walk past him, then up the stairs, following after him to shut it. "North," he barked. He would walk Q out as far as he could before turning back. The boy had to learn. He was tired.

Bornes opened his eyes when he no longer could see the faint of the flashlight through his eyelids. He looked over to Kaegan before turning toward the beam of the flashlight.
He hesitated a moment, like a dog unwilling to leave its bag of biscuits that it wasn't supposed to have, but eventually stepped over the jug of water and went outside, and in the direction Kaegan told him to.
His eyes refracted the light much like any other animal's, though he tried to hide it by simply keeping his face out of the light. After about ten minutes of walking, Bornes stopped and turned toward Kaegan. His posture was rather slumped. It was clear the hybrid was exhausted, but it wasn't because he hadn't gotten enough sleep.
"Where are we going?" he asked. He expected to not get an answer, but wearily studied Kaegan's face for it anyway.

He reached one hand forward and pushed to have him keep walking. He didn't answer. The boy could keep talking, there would be no answer. He wanted to drive the hybrid away from his camp, his food, his people, for two weeks. He had to live off of his own guile for a change, instead of Kaegan's, and he was eager to see if he'd survive.

Bornes didn't fight the push. He was being herded off like some sort type of cattle and he knew it. He just didn't know where he was going. He had a feeling wherever it was, it wasn't going to be good.
He grunted as he turned, continuing to walk forward with Kaegan behind him.
It was hours as they walked. Bornes had slowed his pace, but Kaegan kept him going along until the sun began to rise. The hybrid would be blind in about thirty minutes. In pain in an hour.
He bit his tongue for a few moments, surveying his surroundings. Absolutely nothing everywhere. He was ******** and he had a feeling this sort of devastation was what Kaegan had been looking for.
"Nobody can survive without food or water for two weeks," he said softly. "Maybe one and a half, at most. Without water I'll die in five days, probably less."
It was a statement of facts. Bornes was hoping for some sort of sympathy. He had a feeling he wouldn't get any, not from Kaegan. But at this point, there couldn't be harm in asking. He'd be in pain for twelve hours regardless if it included another kick to his gut or not.
