Dari took the remote and shrugged. "It's just nice to see you. I've missed you." He shot Cody a smile.
He began to filter through the movies. Maybe they were just not going to talk about it. That was fine too.

"I missed you, too," Cody admitted, and looked to the television. "Are you still angry with me?" He asked, then. He looked to Dari awkwardly. "I'm sorry I offended you."

Dari's smile fell only part-way, then grew again as he arched a brow. Silly.
"Of course not. We can have our separate beliefs. Just please don't talk about my family in such a way in the future, alright?" He leaned to the side and thumped against Cody.
"How about a comedy?"

Cody nodded, and looked to the tv again. He looked awkward. He opened his mouth to speak and seemed to think better of it. He closed it as studied Dari.
"Sounds good," he agreed.

Dari peeked up at Cody and smiled softly. The remote and his hand dropped to his lap as one.
"What?" He had clearly been about to say something.

"I was going to say how much I missed you," Cody invented, and stroked Dari's hair. "Have you picked a movie?" However much the entities working at HQ might frighten him, the idea of losing Dari frightened him more.

Dari continued looking up at Cody. Clearly the alien didn't buy it. They both knew that missing one another was a completely fine thing to discuss. They already had! Whatever Cody had been about to say was worse.

Dari wasn't buying it. For a moment, Cody's expression crumpled. He took a breath. "I'm not scared of Toby," he said. There was a hesitation there. "He's a great guy. I love him, we're family. But I don't think I could handle seeing him on the full moon. So that's why..." That's why he'd tried to get out of going.

Dari nodded and reached up to stroke Cody's cheek.
"It can be frightening for certain," he said and offered a smile. "He is entirely harmless, but of course I understand the fear. Everything was frightening to me at first, and then he was the only person to truly care for me and fight for me. It wasn't strange to me, and now it happens at least once every month. Even Maia was scared the first time." He sat up then and kissed Cody softly.
"You can be afraid. Just don't be arrogant."

Cody leaned into Dari's touch. He closed his eyes and sighed. "Maybe I shouldn't go to work with you so soon," he said. "I'm still grasping at my old reality. All these...entities were just stories. Scary stories to be told around a camp fire or around Halloween."

"Sure, you can take some time. When ever you're ready, we can go," Dari said, and turned back to flipping through the movies.
"Not all entities are traditional monsters, you know. They're not all frightening, I promise." He smiled up to Cody.

"Kevin's certainly nice. I've only ever heard nasty things about kelpies, but he's a good kid." And Toby was a great guy. "What else is there? All sorts of fairies, right?"

"If you want to get really technical, Lori's a faerie, with an ae-ie instead of an a-y. Usually the little bitty ones you're probably thinking of prefer to stay away from humanity. It's not like they can blend in especially well. We do have nature spirits, though. A nymph or two."

"Nature spirits?" Now Cody looked interested, rather than nervous. "Luca was telling me he has one in his back yard. Some work for you guys, then?" Maybe he could meet them. "So changlings and everything? You have those?"

"Sure. Nymphs, dryads, things like that. Guardians need to stay in their forest. We met one called Reese, and a tree in his forest had just spouted a baby nymph." Dari smiled. "Changelings, yes. We have one on-staff at HQ, but not the ill sort, the older-than-dirt sort."
