Cody swallowed. He stood and went to get himself a glass of water before returning to the table. "So... Ghosts are entities. Great. ...What?!" He froze, glass halfway to his mouth. He set it down with a clink. "A haunting?"

Dari's brow remained furrowed.
"I understand your fear-based reaction, but you have to understand that some spirits are just people. Michael is just a person. He happens to be dead. Certainly he has some personality quirks associated with his life-state, but he's no less of a person." He nodded then. "Yes. We-- well, no. Michael helped a young boy cross over. He didn't like me much."

Cody gave Dari a look of absolute disbelief. Some ghosts were just people. Alright. But they were creepy people who could turn invisible at will, harm the living, and possess them.
"A kid? Why didn't he like you?"

"He happened to realize his mother was dead while he was talking to me. I received blame by association. I also took my ring off and frightened him, but he had become unruly." Dari shrugged yet a third time. "There are entities fifty times more terrifying than any dead person."

"Oh," Cody nodded in understanding. Kids did tend to do that, even teenagers. I was doing this, so that happened because of it. "Oh... Yeah. That'd do it." Dari's true form had frightened him at first, even. He could imagine how the kid had reacted.
He swallowed. "Yeah. Like werewolves and vampires."

Dari blatantly tried to fight a smile and snorted with laughter. He cleared his throat and rubbed his nose with the back of his hand.
"Love, that's a bit racist. I know several of both species."

"They eat people, though," Cody said, defensively. He kissed Dari's cheek. "I'm sorry you and the ghost kid didn't get along. He doesn't know what he's missing."

Dari laughed openly then. "Love, I could eat people! You have several nutritious ingredients." But he still loved Cody, as demonstrated when he turned to kiss Cody's cheek in return.

Cody studied Dari for a moment. "No, you couldn't," he said, decisively. Definitely not. Dari couldn't hurt a fly, much less a person. "Besides, werewolves; ghosts and vampires are supposed to be evil. Werewolves eat people all the time!"

"Sure I could, if I wanted to. You're just meat in a flesh-sack," Dari teased, and then shook his head, "There is no genetic 'evil.' If so, Kevin would be a serial killer. Besides, I know a werewolf who has never partaken of human flesh. Actually, so do you."

He stiffened then. "I thought you said Maia was a Selkie."

Dari's eyes widened and he grinned. then laughed.
"Maia is a selkie! I've never lied to you about my friends' species!" He'd simply just never told him what Toby was!

No way. Cody stared in shock. "Toby?! But he's so nice!" The guy was thoughtful and cared so much about his mixed family! He couldn't possibly be a werewolf! "Impossible," he said.

Dari laughed heartily.
"Cody!" he chided, his face only mildly concerned, "Werewolves are no more evil than the average human, and Toby himself is very, very under-control. He's our ambassador to lycans! Do you want to come on a full moon? We stay in until sunrise watching over the others."

Come on the full moon?! Was Dari crazy?! Cody shook his head hurriedly. "Thanks for inviting me, but I think I have to decline. I'm busy every full moon from now until forever."
