Does that invalidate his sacrifice? Does that make him less a hero because he helped people that weren't of the same race as him?
One heroic act does not a hero make. Deathbed repenting is the haven of people who's lives were worth only sacrificing.

He attacked and destroyed an enemy target when he was told not to by someone who knew a hell of alot more than he did, just because he wanted to get revenge.... I don't think I would even consider Richard a hero.
He's my favorite Marvel character ever, so I'm more than a bit biased, but he's done extremly heroic things. He died bringing Xandar back to life, for one.

He didn't do it to repent, he did it because it was the right thing to do. That was but one example of Richie's heroic nature. I can come up with more.
