Hate to say it, but I see a LOT of validity in the "You can pick my character up with one-hand and toss him around like he's nothing, and that's kinda bullshit" argument. That cuts down on the other character's options even more than a full suit of plate armor would. Not to mention that these characters often (read: I have yet to see one that doesn't) have the damage/pain resistance equivalent to wearing that armor anyway, limiting the opponent's options to... what? Using something large and sharp to actually hack off limbs as the only way to slow them down?

I'm not so much arguing against a character archetype as I am the way it prevents someone else from being effective with their character if they don't play the same archetype.

Lol. Bus on the loose.

The important question is if it's yellow and short?

I thought I was doing a better job of making Athan more...erm...'vulnerable'.

I mean, it would be silly to think that a guy smaller than Athan could knock Athan out just as easy as somebody his own size, but at the same time it's hardly fair to just shrug off everything and go "well it's because I'm bigger than you".

There are always going to be those 'theme' battles I have with people like Ebris, where we bust through marble pillars and do incredible amounts of damage to the scenery with our characters' bodies alone. But that's a mutual thing, and when I'm constantly getting graded down because Athan's not being creative, I have to think of something to do with a character whose best attribute is his durability.

I've been guilty of flexing the "no way you're stronger than ATHAN" card, but that's more of an OOC thing than an IC thing.

Don't worry, Des, I believe in the awesome might of Athan.

Of course, the easiest way to win HoH is to get beat up. My patented method letting myself get the crap beaten out of me worked for over two years until they finally caught on.

Just take the damage but don't drop. That's the best way to be durable.

Being bigger doesn't necessarily make you tougher. If a 140 lb guy has a KO punch for a right hand, he can probably knock out someone twice his weight, if he gets to hit 'em. I mean, if you weigh 150 or 280, a punch to the face is still a punch to the face. Just because I'm bigger than, say, Fox, doesn't mean I can automatically take more punishment. The only thing I could see being 'tougher' is maybe the bones, since the frame is bigger and thicker.

But, as far as I've ever known, being big doesn't really make you tough, or somehow resistant to the attacks of smaller people. A 40, 100, or 150 lb difference between two characters would be a difference in strength and the amount of weight they can throw around, not toughness, unless like Athan or Ebris, it was one of their passive abilities to be really tough. But that shouldn't stem from their size. The only reason a bigger person would have a more likely chance to knock them out is because they can put more weight behind the blow, but that doesn't mean that someone smaller has any less of an ability to KO someone.

Now, as for picking someone up, it's POSSIBLE to pick someone up with one arm, depending on how you're doing it. Just lifting your arm straight up in front of you, with the person hanging on it? Not very likely, because you're using all of.. about three small muscles, maybe Front delt, rotator cuff, and maybe the side delt. Not the strongest muscles around. Using some body torque, like twisting at the waist and yanking your arm back to sling them into the air would make more sense, because you're putting out a lot more force and using a lot more strength.

So for that, I'd throw it up to mechanics. If someone said "my character lifts their arm and picks yours up", I would say "no" based on the mechanics of movement being used. You don't just lift someone by raising your arm, most people can barely lift forty pounds like that. They'd better at least make a show of actually USING some sort of torque or real movement.

Regardless of reason Reiko is pretty much killing his team's score. Can't just stop playing if it's a losing fight.

The smarter, if rather dickish move, would have been to stop posting before post 7.

I think the most important factor about a small (well, only compared to...) vs big person is tolerance.

It's like

3/4 punches from the small guy ='s 1 from the bigger guy.

Your best bet is to choke him out, or ******** his face up, i.e punch him in the eye or break his nose.

Attacking the body is pointless, if you're lucky enough, he doesn't take leg kicks well.

I'm talking from the smaller opponent's perspective, though.

I most certainly agree that it's ridiculous when you abuse power, or your character's strength. Being 300 pounds, and somewhat tall doesn't mean you'll pick an average 160er by the arm or leg, with a single arm of yours, and toss him like a ragdoll. A ragdoll. With no slight struggle or anything.

Unless somebody out there does it like this, then i'll be ok with it.

I mean, it's not about RL and Gaia. It's about being legit.

I realize that bigger isn't inherently tougher, but the big characters here universally have the passive ability of exceptional toughness mentioned.

As for being picked up and tossed, it's hard to say "No" when you can't actually quantify the difference in strength. They say they can do it, it'd be puppetmastering to say "No, you fail without me doing anything to make that happen."

Regardless, you all seem to understand my point, even if you're not necessarily seeing it as the "problem" that I am: big characters, despite being just one of many archetypes, are the only characters that so thoroughly change how someone has to fight them, to the point of not letting many players use their characters at intended. The only character that can fight a big guy the way they designed their character to fight is another big guy, and that's just not fair.
