"Aww, that's so cute!" Sam cooed, "I love the little ones. I actually teach kindergarten down at--"
Dari appeared suddenly and handed Cody his drink. He stood behind the man, still smiling. "Hey, Love. Who's this?"
Sam laughed slightly and looked to Cody. Love? Was this a joke?

"Really? I'm a history teacher," Cody replied quickly, before looking up. He smiled. There he was! "This is Sam," he said. "She's a kindergarten teacher."

"Hi, Sam. Do you know each other from school or...?" No, wait. Cody worked at a high school, not a K-12. He narrowed his eyes slightly and laughed. "Are you hitting on my fiancee?"
"What?" Sam asked.
"Hi," Dari said, holding out his hand. Sam took it out of instinct. "I'm Darren. This is my fiancee, Cody."
Sam mumbled something and rushed off, pulling her bag up higher on her shoulder.
Dari laughed again and sat down where the kindergarten teacher had been seated. "She said 'I'm sorry'."

Cody looked just as embarrassed. "I didn't know what to do," he said, apologetically. "I was going tp tell her no that was your spot but she'd already sat down."
A teenage boy was walking with three coffees in his arms. He stumbled over a chair and onto Cody's lap.

"It's fine, Love." Dari nudged Cody's calf with his shoe and sat back. He saw what happened then as it happened, but that didn't stop his knee-jerk reaction. He tensed and half-stood, ready to lunge at who ever had assaulted his fiancee. His brain recognized it was a teen and, to cover it up, he asked "Are you alright?" He came around the table to help the boy up, muscles still tensed and ready to spring for no good reason. The beating they'd endured had changed him. He didn't like it.

"I'm so sorry!" The teenager had leapt back after Dari had helped him up, looking horrified. "I'm so sorry." He rushed to get napkins. He came back with a handful.
"No, it's fine," Cody assured, wincing. What a day... Hit on by a woman and then having hot coffee dumped on him. "I'll go get cleaned up." He reached for Dari's hand.

"It's okay, it's okay. Go get yourself some refills. I'll back you up." His hand closed around Cody's instinctively and he could only offer the teen another small smile as he was whisked away.
"How much do you love this shirt?" he asked Cody.

Cody knew what Dari had in mind. His expression darkened briefly. "Don't you dare," he said, in a low voice. "You'll get yourself killed. I can always a buy another shirt."

Dari just smirked and rolled his eyes. Cody was overly-protective, and he understood why, but that didn't make it any less silly. He had walked around in only makeup or a bright light for years previous to his ring.
"I'm very difficult to kill anyway," he said and released Cody's hand to start running some water. "Take it off?" He wasn't sure if that was an option.

Cody was still frowning as he removed his shirt. "They'd put you on a table," he fretted. He kissed Dari's cheek then. "I don't want you hurt, love. Especially not because of me."

"They'd still have a hell of a time taking my sentience," Dari said. He leaned into the cheek kiss and took Cody's shirt, bathing it under the water where coffee had been spilled to clean it the best he could and then taking paper towels to it and finally a hand dryer.
"Maybe he was trying to hit on you too," he teased.

"I still don't like it," Cody said, frowning. He paused and stuck his tongue out at Dari. "I don't know why," he said. "I don't usually have that happen. And when I say "I don't usually" I mean it never happens."

"I'm not surprised. You're a sweet, attractive young guy," Dari continued. "Maybe your engagement ring makes you all the more attractive, who knows?" He hit the hand dryer button for another round of air.

"The only one who thinks I'm attractive is you, love," Cody smiled at him. "She must have been after my money." He shook his head and went over to Dari, kissing his cheek. "I love you."
