Hey there guys,I'm new here.I love gaurdsmen.I tend to go for a horde when I can.it always disheartens my opponents. This way they never know where my main thrust wil come from.

Me, i'd just whip out all my rapid firing squads, like my Uber dreadnought with twin assault cannons, and my landspeeder squad. biggrin

Not this thing again...

Good thing that the Imperial Guard has the strength of numbers, otherwise GW could just delete the army from 40k.

Along with the Orks, the Imperial Guard are my next favourite army. I always loved the old 1st Edition 40K Imperial guardsman and for my current guard army i chose the Cadians as their uniforms most closely matched those 1st edition ones.
What's everyone else's favourite guard army?

Cadian Pattern i would say is most popular i just dont like the catachan (or however the hell you spell them,) at all, i mean what happend everything needed to be represented on a model

The Catachan's are cool if you want to have a Veitnam theme.
Not crazy about Cadians as they are supposed to be ellite and now they seem to be the generics.
My favourite is the Vallhalans.Love the Russian revolotion Red army.(For the Revolotion)
Death corps are cool aswell.

Heh, I like the steel legion. Looks cool and stuff.

I'm mapping out a Close Combat guard army (OMG SUX!) for later on. (fifty man conscript platoons with guardsman with only two close combat anyone? and priests. twisted

k maybe it'll still suck but i like the idea regardless.

Cadians are only populare because they have all the plastics. If games workshop ever dose other regiments then the cadians will fade away and balance with the others.

Please, I've taken concentrated fire from an entire Eldar shooty army without losing a single heavy weapon. The imperial guard are far far too meat sheild heavy to ever lose a slugging match. I mean every single heavy weapon in my army has 10 wounds because that is the entire point of my squad.
Now let's do this mathmatically.
A Vyper has a BS of 4 and a scatter Laser has a st of 6.
No on average you are probaly going to get 4 shots a turn.
of those 4 2-3 will hit and you might fail to wound with 1 so 1-3 wounds per turn. Maybe enough to force a leadership test but with a re-roll at 9 leadership chances are those 7-9 men aren't going anywhere. In fact you only have a 3/22 chance that they will.
Now for return fire 1/2 of the rockets/lascannon shots are going to get through and only 1/6th of those are going to miss so I have a 5/12 chance that my return shot will knock you Vyper out of the game for a turn.
I like my chances of suceeding a load more than yours.

I must disagree. a 20-man guardian squad, 40 shots, bs 3, so 20 hits on average, about 13 wounds per turn per guardian squad. an average Eldar army has 2 or 3 such squads plus various CC Aspect Warrioir squads that will tie up and prevent your weapons from shooting in close combat. added to that are Falcons, which are pretty damn hard to shoot down.
