Sheryl nodded. "Of course. We all want to see you get better. Technically you're Alpha female now. Most get along with Devon, as temperamental and stubborn as he can be. They respect him.
Len snorted and she hit his shoulder.
"You guys don't count. You grew up with him. Anyway, they're eager to meant the girl he feel for Plus, I think there impressed that stuck with it. It not everyday a human becomes pack so they're curious."

"Pretty poor Alpha female I am I'm not even a wolf and I'm not even that impressive to begin with." Lark sighed deflating a little. "I mean I'm not brave i'm scared of other wolves and a lot of them got hurt the other night because of me, so what's to be curious about, in fact I don't even know what Devon sees in me or why he chose me as his to begin with." Lark said

Sheryl and Len exchanged a look, both frowning at her word. Sheryl sat on the edge of the bed and squeezed Lark's shoulder.
"Honey, don't tell me you think what happened is wholly your fault?" she said, concerned. "It wasn't. You just ended up getting tied up in an already large problem."
"Plus," Len added crossing his arms. "It was Devon who commanded us. And even if it hadn't been an order we would have gone anyway. Injuries were a result of our choices."
Sheryl reached up to take his hand. "And the bond works both ways. Devon may have chosen you, but you chose him also."

Lark sighed accepting the comfort that Sheryl was giving her it was clear to her now that she still had a lot to learn about Devon's world and wolf packs in general. "But still why would you have chosen to fight if Devon had made you?" Lark asked it was still a foreign concept to her because she had never really seen or heard such acts of selflessness been done before even though she was pretty selfless herself but still the humans she had been around only cared about money, status and themselves. "And how did i end up choosing Devon when we barely knew each other's name?"

Sheryl leaned back and looked up at Len. He was trying to think up a good answer.
"Because... it was right. Some of us have friend, families and pack that we want to protect. The rogue endanger that. Devon devotes himself to all our welfare. We return the favor." he said with a shrug.
"As for you choosing. Since when does the heart do anything that makes normal sense? It's not something that can be explained, but one's heart seems to know what it's doing."

Lark though about it and found that they were right but still it didn't ease the guilt she felt at begin used against Devon and the pack they way she was but the good news is they made out ok at least most of them did it was hard to imagine anyone she knew dying because of what had happened. "Your right," she said to both of them. "Even though Devon didn't seem to happy about admitting it at first, oh I almost forgot to ask is Bo okay." Lark hoped her other friend was okay because it would hurt worse knowing that she and Sheryl were ok but Bo wasn't

Sheryl hesitated briefly. "Bo is fine. However, I think she'll be limping for a few days." she said truthfully.
Len smiled wryly. "She's a rather vicious fighter. I'm surprised anyone even touched her."
Sheryl shot him a look. She didn't think it would help Lark any to get too much detail.

Sheryl was right about not telling her the details because after Len said that she was instantly worried about her friend who to Lark was toughest girl in the world. She looked at Sheryl again the worry plain as day on her face. "What happened? Is she going to be okay? Shes not in the hospital too is she?"

Sheryl glared at Len briefly and he had enough tact to look sheepish. She turned to Lark.
"While fighting one of the rogues got her good in the leg. The fracture is healing as well as the wound. She'll be using a crutch for a bit. She'll mainly be sore for awhile."
"Not any worse than Devon shoulder." Len added.
Sheryl glared at him again.

Now Lark was upset because hadn't realized that Devon's shoulder was that bad in fact he told her it was only a small bite and it didn't hurt that much but if it was worse than Bo's leg then he was really trying to downplay his injury when it must hurt him a lot and the only reason she must not have caught on to his fib was because she was on so much pain meds and it made the connection foggy. "What do mean he told me it didn't bother him are you telling me he lied? How bad is it really, I mean should I have not let him go chasing Fredrick? Should I tell him to go home to rest." she was looking between Len and Sheryl scared for Devon now

Len looked nervous now. Sheryl had leveled her cool stare at him. "Yes, Dear. Please, explain Devon's injury to Lark." They had been down playing it for Lark's state of mind. Apparently that didn't get across to Len.
"Ur... It's not so bad.... It will be find in a week..." he shifted avoiding both their stares. "His shoulder was bit into rather hard. It'll bother him for a bit but not long."

This time Lark caught the lie Len was trying to pass off because this time she was looking for it and now she was panicking very afraid for her mate. "It is bad isn't it and it's bothering him right now as he's after Fredrick and he won't be out there now hurting himself more if I hadn't laughed at him after encouraging Fredrick to tell me those stories. " Lark said taking the blame yet again as she started to cry with her head in her hands

Between Lark's tears and Sheryl's glower Len was panicking. He had no idea what to do.
Sheryl sighed and hugged Lark as best she could without aggravating her injury.
"Shhh. Fredrick is a good friend and Devon is smart. I doubt they'll even start fighting. Devon had his shoulder bound and treated just like Bo. He's not supposed to move it or I'm sure you and his mother would kill him for making it worse. He was trying to make things as peaceful as possible for you.
We heal fast. He'll be fine in a week. Tops. So don't cry. You need your strength to chew him out when he gets back, right?" she teased kindly.

Lark wasn't soothed much because she felt at fault and if he did hurt himself more it was on her because she set him off causing him to make it worse so how could she be angry when she was so worried about him. "No he wouldn't be out their if I hadn't laughed at him and that set him off in the first place but I don't think I can chew him out right now I just don't understand how he could lie like he did and what else is he not telling me." Lark was crying on her friend's shoulder. "Len could you please go find them and tell him i'm sorry and come back please." She asked pleadingly

Sheryl sighed. She doubted the girl would let her comfort her. At the moment only Devon could. Sheryl wondered what could make Lark constantly believe she was at fault for everything that happened around her.
Len behind her nodded to Lark. He was glad of the release but unwilling to tell Devon. He was dead. Sullenly he left the hospital room.
