Cristopher Reinhart

With the truck ride finished Reinhart could only analyze what he thought would happen next. Yeah, it was turning more and more into a worse case scenario. They'd be on foot now and god only knew what else would jump out at them around the next corner. Upon recieving Rain's warning he felt Grace latch onto his arm, he'd been asked to take care of her, so far.....he wasn't doing a good job.

Babysitting was something he wasn't accustomed to. No offense to Grace of course. Still, she was a part of the group so he'd have to make sure she was safe. Speaking of which, he'd lost sight of the gunslinging Reaper in all the lightning, acid, arrows, bullets, and screaming. Where was Maximos? First thing was first. GET OFF THE DAMN TRUCK. Reinhart reversed Grace's grip on his arm and took her by her hand pulling her to him.

"Hang on..."

He said as he let go of her hand and wrapped his arm around her waist before pushing off the truck with an overly large amount of force. In an instant they'd be off the truck and in the air headed in the direction of Maximos and Verdandi. Off the truck, off a wall, and they were standing at the end of the alley barring Maximos and Verdandi. Reinhart put Grace down gently and looked to the Reaper.

"Guns...?"

Reinhart said with a tilt of the head as he looked to the man with a sarcastic smile. It was time for him to start pulling his weight and now that they were on foot, he'd get the chance to do so and then some.

After the plume of flame would fade away into a cloud of sulfuric smoke and raise up into the night sky, Rain would lift his head to look back. He had successfully pulled Brown out of there, but the woman he had moved to grab... she had been right in front of him, and she just... vanished. He didn't know what happened, but there was no trace of her now.

He looked back at the destroyed vehicle, and swore under his breath. 'Well, that's just great. That's just freakin' great. Now what are we supposed to do?!'

Everyone else who was in or on the truck was gone. The gunfire Maximos was creating had died out, and he couldn't hear anyone's voices. Though the distant sounds of approaching, heavily armed soldiers was drawing nearer. It sounded more like an extermination squad than a rescue team by this point.

As the smoke would begin to clear, a small glimmer of hope revealed itself: the trailer, although heavily scorched, was still intact. If it had given to the explosion, the entire block probably would have gone up in flames.

"Let's salvage what we can from this situation, Boss Man. Looks like we're hoofing it from here." Helping Brown to his feet, he would lead the way (cautiously) to the trailer. As much as he wanted to, he would not call out from the others; he had to use the cover of smoke to conceal himself, and vocalizing his location from any potential threats coming to investigate the explosion was just a bad idea.

Grace was a little startled at the jump as Reinhart got them well away from the exploding truck, she smiled her thanks at the man and looked from Verdandi to Maximos with a bit of shock. "What are you doing 'Andi, I thought you were playing at being inconspicuous?'

Verdandi dipped into a slight curtsy that actually looked very natural even with the pants instead of a skirt as she nodded her thanks to Chris for watching out for Grace. "Now Grace dear, you know how plans can change! We should go check on Mr. Brown and Mr. Yupa." whee

Grace kept looking back and forth from the lady in white to the dark man, until the motion started to look more like she was shaking her head... Grace had a few suspicions and was more than a little worried about why the heck 'Andi was playing all friendly with people that they had only met a very short while ago... eventually she settled for scowling at Verdandi for a moment before she stepped in a little closer to Maximos. "Are you hurt anywhere? I can patch you up if you do not wish to be healed right now..."

Several.

He said, his eyes meeting Cris and giving him a stout nod. The shortest and most direct of actions, matching a short and direct answer. Maximos was all for friendliness. And while he was recovering, there had been a rather large explosion and from what he saw, all the individuals who had powers were currently here in a dark and decidedly empty alleyway, leaving Joesph Brown, and Rain Yupa by themselves in the open. This seemed unwise and so the sooner they could return, the better.

His head turned toward Grace as he turned to face the exit out of the alleyway.

No, thank you. We should get back to the others, the alley is cleared.

He paused, for a moment, waiting for any voiced objections or issues with this course of action. And then made his way to the exit of the alley, and back to the main street. At which point he would head for the truck, or at least what remained of it. When Rain and JB emerged the group would be able to formulate a proper plan of action.

~Forces from all four gates are closing.~ Descant's voice was like a silent intruder, sneaking into the minds of ally generals. It was time for another major update.

~Some type of armor; changed citizens are being taken down on sight. No doubt they'll team up and go for golems. Seems to be at least double the force from the South Gate.

~The truck with LastHope resistance has stopped and seems to be regrouping; destination unknown. One of their members cut down a good number of Drow. ~
She would have blinked a sigh, but... she couldn't really do that. ~It's time to check in and see if we're staying or going. I'm not feeling hot about this.~

Realign and refocus.

Joseph was forcibly yanked out of the truck, and that was about it. Sure it wasn't the most pleasant way of going about things but he could realise that somehow this was for the best. The exploding truck punctuated this idea of "for the best".

"Well." Joseph rose to his feet not long after Rain only to brush the dust off his jacket, "That was just fantastic. Just... Fantastic."

The head of the company followed Rain as he cautiously went towards the flaming wreckage. Course that wasn't all he did. While all this was going down he reached into his coat pocket to pull out a now rather wrinkled package of gum, clearly marked "nico-quit". Seconds later he was chewing it.

"I think plan B is in order, the plan that states 'there goes our rescue vehicle, maybe we should get out with our own asses in tact rather than John Ramboing it up." The gum went back into his pocket, "I rather like that plan so I'm gonna flesh it out a bit. We get what we need, make sure everyone's clear, set some remote bombs, huff it a bit, then blow the rest of this truck sky high to make sure that crazy elf people are coming towards it and not us."

"Then, and this is the optional part, we find out what that..." His words were set to a backdrop of gunfire and marching, "Soldiery sound is. Preferably from a distance, as it could be more crazy elf things only this time with guns. There choice of arrows and magic the past two times says no, but hey, better safe than sorry."

So how long has that dimension lock spell been up? Long enough right? Even if it was cast by several groups to create a spell large enough to encompass the city, it didnt last forever. So quite suddenly, it was gone, the spell's duration having expired.

Well, they were to stay. Descant was quite wary of a bunch of guys in powered suits stomping through her city, for she was but a poor, ol' girl who couldn't really dent someone with the suit of a Teminatus surrounding them. She thought about her options and what was playing out.

To get through to that many people and whatever sensors there may be, she'd need at least some humans for backup. Having them act as meat shields would be great as well. How much time did she have for that?

She could shapeshift and go with the flow, an option that was looking more and more desirable.

She could stay and get shot, but that hurt like hell. Eh, maybe not.

((Sorry for the delayed post; younger sibling + summer vacation = less free time for me >.< ))

Rain sighed. Brown was right; their options were limited at this point. If they couldn't get themselves out, how would they be able to get everyone else out too? And Rain didn't like the sound of the marching soldiers and ensuing gunfire. It sounded too... systematic to be promising.

Rain would help scavange through the truck, looking for the bombs plus any extra weapons Brown wanted. He didn't want to Rambo it up, but being armed is still better than not.

"Are these what you wanted?" Rain asked, coming back out of the trailer with a suitcase full of small rectangular things with timers, like in all those action movies. They could have been something else, but he wasn't the technology expert out of the two of them.

About that time, Maximos would probably be showing up right behind them. "Sir Maximos, you're safe! What... about the others? Are they okay as well?" After the response, he would comment "Well, as you can see, things are definitely looking down. Six survivors are definitely better than zero." He sighed in response to his own comment, then with Brown, would probably repeat their plan to Maximos.

Indeed.

He responded, more to his status amongst the living than anything else. His mis-matched eyes turned to look down the side of the truck where the others were presumably approaching.

Yes, I agree. With any luck Owle and Mr. Kalis have found a safe escape. Lets move for the gate.

There just wasnt much more than that to say, Rain and JB could the cities status as good as anyone else here. It was time to act.

sweatdrop Grace looked relived at just the mention of the word gate, the elven woman truly feeling out of her element here...

'Andi on the other hand was still smiling and as chipper looking as she had been from the start. "Oh, are you headed out already then? I had thought that you were all interested in a bit more payback towards the invaders..." xp

The red head looked at her blond companion as if she had just grown a second head, and Grace was sorely tempted to see if 'Andi was corporeal enough that she could shut her up by stuffing a roll of gauze in her mouth or something along those lines. stare "'Andi, there are only six of us, and you and I have been of very little real help so far, getting out while we are still alive sounds like a very good idea!"

whee "Do you really think so dear?" Verdandi just continued to smile, a perfect vision of confidence in the small party.

So how long has that dimension lock spell been up? Long enough right? Even if it was cast by several groups to create a spell large enough to encompass the city, it didnt last forever. So quite suddenly, it was gone, the spell's duration having expired.
Finally.

The operation seemed a success, but there were still pockets of resistance lingering about and causing trouble, not to mention a legion of powered-armored troops stomping around. The original plan had been to blitz the town with the squads of undead, drow, and golems, but they weren't expected to all survive in one piece. As it was, only half of one such group remained, since the remaining drow that had initially attacked were already gone. Reinforcements had been lined up and ready to go, waiting for the black obelisk to be raised, but the dimension lock prevented them from teleporting into the heart of Barton sooner. But now that spell had expired.

"Finally..." Alexander grumbled when he felt the magic of the dimension lock dissipate. "General, send the signal for reinforcements and lock this place down. I leave you in charge."

The high priest burst into a swarm of bats before the lich could even respond, flying from the stadium back to the airship still hovering above town. The lich pulled a scroll out of his robe and unrolled it, reading the words of power scribed on the parchment. The obelisk standing erect where the fountain used to be suddenly flared with a violet light, charged with energy. The area immediately surrounding the obelisk was now under the effects of a desecration spell; empowering the undead and weakening any mortals stepping within a 30-foot radius of it. A portal large enough for a tank to roll through also opened on its southern side.

Vengeance began to ascend into the air, darkness swirling around it as the vessel cloaked itself in a veil of black clouds. The airship took off silently, leaving the scene and heading south.

Maximos decided to field Andi's questioning.

Their forces easily number into the hundreds, not including wandering undead and constructions mechanized or otherwise.

He felt an uncomfortable chill down his spine as the rift was opened back at the square, causing him to pause for just a second analyzing the feeling with cold precision before responding.

And they are increasing...

His multicolored eyes slid back toward the square and then back out toward the town en masse. He could see faint lights and feel tugs of life in the distance though with no real definition.

There is a very real possibility we could be the last survivors capable of mounting a counter attack. Though that counter attack may cost the lives of the other survivors unable to defend themselves, as well as the lives of some, if not all, of us.

His eyes finally slid back to Verdandi.

Victory and in turn vengeance is pointless if no one survives.

He turned to Rain and Joesph. As he remembered those two Rain were the ones to pilot this vehicle and so they may know the most about it.

It is doubtful they will let us simply exit on foot, is there any way of repairing or acquiring another of these steel magic devices?

Of course by that he meant a car.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2007 4:03 pm

((Let's see if we can wrap this up, fellas. I'm sure y'all are just as eager as I am to do so smile ))

"Steel... magic... wha?" Rain started, giving Maximos a O.o look. After a brief pause, he figured it out. "Oooh, a ride! Yeah, no problem. Gimme a sec."

He diverged from the group, scouring the nearby alleyways until he found what he was looking for. A zombie. Or rather, several zombies.

BAM! WHACK! THUD! SLAM! CRACK! CLANG! THUMP!

The defenses of a few mindless undead would prove negligable to someone adept at taking apart his opponents with a series of strikes. Yes, they couldn't be "killed" quite as easily as they were now, but their bones, the very bones that provided their bodies the structural integrity necessary for locomation, were no less brittle. And most of the important ones were shattered now.

Rain sauntered back, shaking his right hand a bit as if to shake off an inconvenient pain. In his left, he held several sets of keys. He hit several buttons on the chains, to no avail until the last one, where a car down the street suddenly flashed its lights, the doors unlocking.

"Bingo. Let's ride, my friends."

((Indeed.))

Cold eyes followed Rain as he ran off, a faded aura brawled its way behind a few walls before finally emerging with keys! He may not know how a car worked, but he had seen people insert keys in them to start them. He followed shortly behind Rain with a shotgun slung over his shoulder. He would wait for everyone else to enter the car before taking a seat.
