Lone, summer homework occurs when the teacher has to cover more than time allows, so he or she assigns stuff to do over the summer so you can hit the ground running.

I only got summer homework when I was in an honors or AP class, and that's because the course was accelerated past what the public school system would allow, time and scheduling wise. =3 Of course, it all depends on the teacher and the class and the school. 8D
