As they drew closer to the hotel, a man stepped out from the shadows a few feet ahead of them. The man had a loaded revolver, single-action from its appearance, aimed at them. To anyone not familiar with weapons, you couldn't tell the difference. To Vandal Savage, it was blatantly obvious. It was also obvious to him that the man was nervous.

"Stop right there. This is loaded. Give me the purse and wallet, and this'll go down with no one dead."

Savage simply stopped, and pushed Rebecca behind him. This might appear to her to be a heroic thing, but all it did was simply get her out of his way.

"You trying to be brave?" the man asked, a hint of his nervousness showing in his voice now.

Savage thought to himself. Six walking paces. More than close enough. If it had been a double-action, he MIGHT have been in trouble. But the man needed to pull back the hammer himself in order to fire, and he hadn't yet. Big mistake. Vandal Savage, in one very fluid motion closed the gap in what seemed like no time at all, batted the gun away with his left hand, drew a knife with his right hand, and pressed it up against the man's throat.

Savage pressed the blade just tight enough against the would-be robber's neck to draw a bead of blood. He was about to slit the man's throat wide open, when he remembered Rebecca. As satisfying it would've been to kill the man, his priority was ensuring a large pool of progeny to draw from. He said, "When I take away this knife from your throat, you will run away. That is the only way this will end up with no one dead, as you put it, because if you don't run, you will die." Then, Savage took the knife away from the man, who promptly ran away, pissing himself as he did. Savage wiped the blade on his coat, and sheathed it again. He turned around, and said, "Rebecca. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine." Savage shrugged, looking a little apologetic. "Sorry about that. Where I'm from, his attacking us would've been reason enough for me to kill him on the spot. Self-defense, and defense of another. I had to remind myself that I'm NOT there right now."

"I don't like talking about my past," Savage said, "I very much prefer living in the here and now. Particularly since 'the here and now' happens to include a most beautiful woman being in my company."

"Oh?" Savage said, genuinely curious. "This was my first time at the Lounge, and as you certainly saw, there wasn't barely another customer there, and definitely not where you were working. So tell me..." he said as he walked up to her and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close, "What sort of customers do you normally get?"

An eyebrow raised on Savage's face. "Why don't you tell your boss? He harped on about how he liked to maintain a good working environment for his employees..." He already had a theory on the answer, though.

"You most certainly could," Vandal replied, with a little emotion behind his words, "I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've touched you all night, other than taking you by the arm, and I'm used to getting what I want, when I want it. There's another reason."
