"You know son... when I was your age... I wasn't nearly so talented."

"Really dad? But all I did was read the book...that's how I figured out what to do."

"Yes, but not everyone that's smart at six...some people can't even read yet."

"Really? But it's so easy."

"Ha, ha, for you son, I bet it is. Your destined for great things son. Just remember... no matter what, don't overdo it."

Xen's face twisted slightly. He got back into position...and started again.

"Xen, slow down." His mother was smiling happily as they walked along the river, Xen skipping about ahead of her.
"Mom! Look at me! I'm the great hero of legend! Believe it!" He giggled merrily as he ran about in circles.
"Oh Xen." His mother chided as she set down the basket. "Come here and sit down, or should I give your food to the ants hmm?"
Xen's innocent young face turned upset "Huh! Mooooom! I'm coming okay!?"
His mother laughed her usual laugh, so full of love, so full of life...

60... his body quivered but he quickly stilled it. He didn't show signs of this, he seemed to be hiding his own weakness from himself... though he knew it all to well. His lids drooped slightly as his he struggled to keep his breath. they snapped back wide, his conviction filling them again. he began again...1...2...3...4...

"Sev...en....ty..." a vein showed breifly on his forehead, his silver hair clinging to his face with the grime. The Sweat seemed to be slowing, his body running out of moisture to give. His muscles were burning, his eyes were starting to glaze over on occasion, yet still he started the next set. the blood from his lip from earlier was dried with the filth from his falls... he truly looked a sight...

And in spite of all this... 1...2....3...4....5....

80...he didn't even have the umph to say it aloud. his expression now was even broken, replaced by an strained look of exhaustion. He was nearing his limit...still, as if he cared... if he reached his limit, he would surpass it. That was really all there was to it. Only 2 more sets to go...just two more sets to go...

He staggered, with every push back up his body shivered, pushing past it's peak. The burn in his limbs was searing, his mind was blank, not by choice now, but by fatigue. His lungs too were pained, and dehydration was setting in... yet still... Xenon Maboroshi did not stop... his suffering was dulled by sheer force of will. 90...the night air set in around him as he each count of what he hoped was the final set filled his mind.

100...

Xen's arms went limp. He fell from the posts, landing in the same indent he'd made before, though this time, he did so triumphant. -2hp

He laughed as he flipped himself over with all his remaining strength. the stars were bright over the training field as his weary body fell still. there, covered in dirt, his hair, sopped in a cold sweat, covering his eyes, Xenon fell asleep yet again, this time into a deep, unhindered sleep, a victories smirk plastered on his face.

((*yawn* Good morning.))

The rising sun Gleamed over his face. Perhaps it was the warmth of the sun, perhaps it was mere coincidence, or perhaps it was the dream he'd been having, regardless of the reason, Xenon awoke.

He slowly got to his feet, his muscles feeling tight from the previous days work out. He flexed each of them testily. Once apparently satisfied, he turned almost absently toward the post he'd left his possessions. His face back to it's neutral, harmless attitude, the skinny young man retrieved his coat, slinging it over his shoulder. His long deep sleep had been enough to get back his full strength, but he couldn't rest... not yet any way. Genin exams would soon be here...and they were not going to catch him unprepared... he was going to take a brief respite from his physical work out, but it was just a prelude. He was going to work more on his forte, after all... covering ones weakness's was good, but if you let that obscure your strengths development, you'd never reach your true potential.

He ran up a tree giving himself a slight boost with chakra at the last minute. -1 chakra
He set down in a particularly comfortable nook of the tree, his fingers fumbling in on of his many pockets. He pulled out a long string, his eyes seeming to lock on it the moment it entered his vision.

Lacing the string about each finger he settled his back against the tree and began to play a little one man game of cat's cradle.

He was a little sluggish this morning, but it didn't really matter. He could probably do this while still asleep. His mind was indeed his sharpest weapon, as would expected of one of his clan. Still, there were set backs to such things...
He blinked slipping one had out of the formation, and into the pocket of his coat, which he'd draped around behind him while he sat in his meditative position. From the coat he pulled his glasses, which he noticed and recalled at the same time, were rather dirty. He took a moment away from his game to wipe the off with a peice of cloth, also pulled from on of his many pockets. One would start to wonder what else he had in them...

After his glasses were back in good condition he redeposited the cloth and placed the spectacles back in their rightful seat upon his face. Adjusting them with a push of a finger he then picked the string back up off his lap, beginning again.

He mind began to wander as he preformed the exercise flawlessly. He began to plan ahead for this day of training. Yesterday 100 push ups and 5 successful tumbles from the tallest tree... today he suspected he would work tumbles again, then perhaps run about the track to test his endurance... then finally he'd try for those push ups again...then he also recalled he needed to work on his hands signs... hes miled to himself at his forgetfulness, shaking his head almost lazily.

"Well," he closed his eyes playing the game blind. "I suppose it's all a part of the process..."

There was something bothering him... he suddenly noted. Something tugging at the back of his mind... he felt himself draw inward, his fingers still effortlessly cradling away.

What could be bothering him. He was doing well, his training was on schedule, he would soon be a Genin, he knew this... and yet...

He blinked. To an on looker, he would appear dazed, out of it, staring off into the distance his fingers working away at their task, but in truth his dull expression was merely a facade to his inner thoughts.

What could it be... was he impatient? That was quite possible. It seemed childish to him but, he would openly acknowledge he was still a child. One had to accept what one was, or you were merely lying to yourself. Still, for some reason he didn't think that was it... maybe... he felt incomplete...

Yes...

That was it. He felt incomplete. He could tell now, curled up in the dark pit of his heart he'd shut off from the world, there was something missing. He tilted his head slightly, almost a moment looking like any other teenage boy. It was almost possible to imagine him a regular boy, climbing a tree and playing a children's game as he waited for his friends to arrive...

Then he laughed, a calm devil may care smile playing across his face. It didn't matter. He would feel better once he was a Genin he was sure.

His eyes seemed to regain awareness as he finished the final cradle. looking almost innocent he put the string back in the same pocket he'd got it from, third one down on the left side of his black jeans, and got to his feet, balancing on the tree branch. He looked down to the ground and sighed a long sigh. "He we go again." he said lethargically. his lip quivered like it wanted to smirk, but it didn't seem to get it's way. he lept.
