Lori nodded. "Huh."
His family didn't really celebrate the human holidays, but he had gotten into them himself. Why struggle against a reason to celebrate? Even if you didn't believe, why not take part?
"When it's a little darker. They'd be hard to miss, don't worry," Toby said.

Luca kissed Lori's cheek. It was nice, having a family to celebrate with.
Kevin looked impatiently up at the sky, then to his sparkler. "Will you do another sparkler with me, Toby?" he asked.

Lori grinned and stole a lip kiss, albeit a quick one.
"Sure," Toby said, pulling another from the box and offering it to Kevin, then taking his own. He lit one, and then ignited the other with it.
As if on cue, there was a sudden whistling. Toby wheeled around and pointed. There! It was starting!
Lori kissed Luca's temple again and tossed his extinguished sparkler aside.

Kevin took his sparkler and smiled, watching it for a moment before turning around and looking for the firework. His eyes grew wide and he watched it burst. It was...loud. It was beautiful!
Luca waited for his sparkler to die before he tossed it aside. He smiled at Lori, leaning against him. His attention was stolen though, by the whistling firework. He turned slightly to watch.
Cody took Dari's hand.

Toby pulled Maia into his lap and leaned back to watch the fireworks. He nudged Kevin's arm. It was pretty cool, wasn't it?
Lori smiled and leaned his chin on Luca's shoulder.
Dari took Cody's hand and marveled at the fireworks with him. They were beautiful. Loud, but beautiful.

Maia smiled and looked up at the fireworks. Another shot up into the air, bursting and the sparks flashed like fireflies before fading.
"Can we do this every year?" Kevin asked. His eyes were glued to the sky, waiting for each firework. He'd never seen something so beautiful.
Cody scooted closer to Dari and wrapped an arm around his waist.

"Sure," Toby said between bursts, "Why not?" It was nice that Kevin was even thinking at least two years ahead.
Dari smiled to Cody and kissed his cheek. "I love you."

Kevin smiled brightly. His full attention went back to the fireworks. He'd never seen fireworks from so close, or with people he cared about. He'd never cared for anyone, really.
"I love you," Cody echoed, giving Dari a squeeze.

Dari had thought that it was over. After he got his engagement ring, he had been blissfully devoid of outside flirting. All he had to do was subtly let the light glint off of it and strangers showed less interest. Most assumed it was a wedding ring, he was sure.
He had no idea what was going on behind him as he waited in line to buy he and his love some tasty beverages.
A young blonde had her eye on Cody. She was a petite thing, shorter than him and dressed for the warm weather.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" she asked, but she was already sitting. She sighed and settled in. "It's lovely weather, isn't it?"

Oh. A girl. Uh. Awkward. Cody opened his mouth to say the seat was indeed taken, that he was engaged, but words failed him and he gaped at her before his mouth snapped shut.
"Uh. Yeah," he agreed. "I love summer."

"It was so hot just last week, and now just look at it," she said, "I think spring's my favorite, though. The weather, the new life-- I'm Sam, by the way." She smiled softly over to the curly-haired teacher before her.

"Oh, yeah. Did you enjoy your fourth?" Cody asked, awkwardly. "I have to admit to loving the summer best, more free time to spend with family." More time to spend with his fiancee. He looked towards the line hopefully.

"Sure, it was wonderful. I spent it with family. How about you?" It was a bold question, considering she had already sat with Cody and he had already mentioned family.
Dari was no longer in line. So where was he?

"I spent it with family too," Cody said. They were a family, after all. He didn't see Dari. He was starting to frown. "We did sparklers with my friend's kid, it was his first time." Kevin could count as Toby's kid...

"Oh, yeah?" Sam seemed pleased. You'd mention your own children before a friend's, wouldn't you? "How old is he? The son, not your friend." She gave a charming giggle and grinned.
