I once met a girl who, just by opening her little trap, gave off the impression that she thought she was better than you and that she knew everything. It was in every syllable she spoke. Needless to say, I stayed clear of her best I could. She was a shut in, I'm sure. Perhaps our girls are similar?

->talks about having the approval of her peers and working toward a socially ideal body type (probably lies, but I don't know her)
->tries to make other people feel inferior
Sounds like low self-esteem, perhaps an association of self-worth with what others think of her. Maybe she feels inferior to you because you don't seem to need the same kind of validation to feel good about yourself. I've been on both sides of this kind of behavior, and that's generally what it's about from my experience.
It's important to remember that no matter her motive, her goal is to get to you. Whether it works or not, if you don't show her that it's working she will eventually give up. Next time she comes to hover over you, why don't you try to find something about her appearance that you do like and pay her a sincere compliment about it? It will confuse the <******** out of her, and if it's all she ever gets out of you, she will probably get frustrated with the lack of a satisfying reaction and go find someone else to try and belittle.
