"We might. They don't sell anything close to what we'll see at the display, though," Dari said, "Cody is a very good teacher, yes. We have similar teaching styles. He teaches history, though."

"Oh," Kevin didn't seem too disappointed. "They'll still make noise, though? That's the most important part." History. The kelpie thought about that before wrinkling his nose. "He's like Lori, then!" he complained. "When will we get to his house? I want to meet your human."

"Yes, of course they do," Dari assured the boy. He continued when they grew closer to Cody's building. "He doesn't live in a house, he lives in an apartment. That's his building up there."
He pulled into the parking lot and stepped out of the car, but waited for Kevin before approaching the door. He texted Cody, just in case: I'm here. Kevin came with.

Kevin?! Cody was surprised, but not unpleasantly. This was the boy that might end up in his class, maybe next year. He opened his door and stepped out, waiting for them.
"I see him!" Kevin announced, pointing. Cody grinned in amusement.

Dari jogged a couple of steps to catch up to Cody and grinned. He gave him a kiss on the cheek and then gestured to Kevin.
"Cody, this is Kevin. Kevin, this is Cody. We're going to meet everyone at the park."

"Hi Kevin," Cody said, and smiled at the teenager. He offered him his hand. "Nice to meet you," he added, when the boy took it.
"You made Dari all mushy. He used to look like this," Kevin mimicked the serious expression Dari had worn that day at the lake. "But now he's always smiling."

Dari chuckled and shook his head.
"Come on, you two," he said, gesturing for them to follow him back to the car, "We have to go eat and watch things explode."

"Did you really always look so serious?" Cody teased Dari, as they got into the car. He couldn't even imagine It.
"Do we get to make things explode? I think that'd be even better."

"No, not all the time," Dari said, then paused. "Well, maybe most of the time."
He shook his head then at Kevin's comment. "We can't do anything close to what the town can, but we'll get to light some stuff on fire and make some loud sounds, sure."

Cody smirked. "Really?" he asked.
"Toby serious faced even more," Kevin said. "He serious faced even when I came all the way here to see him." He seemed to brighten at the idea that they could still make loud sounds. "Lets hurry. I want to bother Lori's elf."

Dari nodded and offered a smile. That was a conversation for another day. Today he wanted to be fully carefree.
"Oh, 'serious face' is a verb now?" He presumed Kevin had picked it up off of the internet. "He tries to be professional, but he usually fails." He laughed and shook his head about the "Elf" comment.
"Which one?" Then, to Cody: "Is it weird now, knowing all about us?"
They arrived in good time, especially considering that plenty of other folks had the same idea as them. He spotted their family in a decent spread of grass on two blankets and rushed over. Lori had brought tasty, lightly alcoholic 'booze.' He'd slowed down a lot since Luca'd come into the picture, and he preferred when everyone could enjoy what he brought rather than just him and Toby. Toby saw the trio and began unpacking what was going to end up being dinner.
"Hey!" Toby called out, "How was the drive?"
"Not bad," Dari responded, guiding the others to the blankets and waiting for them to sit down before sitting down himself.

"Lori only has one elf!" Kevin said, and grinned as they pulled up. He spotted their group and immediately headed for Toby. "Dari says we can let off our own fireworks!" he announced.
"He said maybe," Cody added, as he caught up. "Look Kev--"
"Don't call me Kev!"

"Oh, uh. We have little things. Sparklers and stuff," Toby said, and he smiled to Cody, then looked to Kevin, surprised. "You've been spending too much time with Michael. Anyway. Cody! Hi! How are you?"
Dari turned to Cody and nudged him. "Don't talk about school," he said under his breath.

Toby stood, half a watermelon slice in his mouth, and held a hand out to Kevin. Give him some, he'd show you how to do it! Nice and violently too, just like kelpies liked. Toby chuckled at the thought.
"Kevin's planning to tease you," Dari said to Luca and smiled, "Apparently you're 'Lori's elf.'"
