Maia smiled happily. "I love you," she said. "It's going to be perfect." Toby being there was what made it perfect. Everything else was just in addition to it. "So... I don't think we've forgotten anyone, invites wise. When do you want to write them?" she asked.

"It is," Toby said, and leaned up to kiss Maia softly. "I love you too." He looked to the table then and shrugged. "Soon. We'll get to them soon."
Time passed as it always did and soon enough a holiday had crept up on the frankensteined family. Toby was in the kitchen getting the last bits of their picnic together while Dari amused Kevin with his video games. They were planning to meet Lori and Luca there and picnic before the fireworks.

Kevin was thrilled to have been invited. He'd only seen fireworks from a distance before. He and Dari were playing splatoon against a another team, and losing. At least, Kevin was losing. Still, He seemed to be having fun.
"I like when I get to use my giant paintbrush," he said.

Dari smiled. "It's fun, isn't it?" He hadn't been totally sure that Kevin would want to try a cutesy game, but it was still wildly competitive.
Toby was almost finished with the food and called out into the house: "Maia! Are you almost done?"

"Yeah! Can we play again?" Kevin asked. "Maybe tomorrow?"
"I'm finished," Maia assured Toby, carrying a bag into the kitchen. A blanket, a suspicious looking yellow box, a thin bag with thinner sticks in them, and another box that promised "noise and confetti". "I got some things for Kevin," she said.

"Sure. You can borrow it some time too, if you like. Or we could buy you your own." The game wasn't all that new. They probably sold for a few bucks on Amazon.
Toby eyed the bag Maia had as he closed the cooler. He arched a brow. Oh boy.
"Yeah? We'll just have to make sure he doesn't torture anyone," Toby teased. "Alright, guys! Ready to go?"
"Yes," Dari said, and began cleaning up the system. They had lost. No big deal.

"Really? You'll have to come over and play it with me."
Maia smiled. "He won't," She promised. "They expect the noise today." She kissed Toby's cheek. Hopefully Toby would help the kelpie with the sparkler.
"Let's go!" Kevin said.

"There's a one-player mode too with bosses and everything," Dari said with a smile. He packed the system away and nodded for Kevin to follow.
Toby held the door open for everyone to leave before him, and Dari thrust a thumb toward his car. "I'm going to go get Cody. See you guys in a bit!"
Toby waved. "See ya! We won't start without ya!"
"Oh please, you can."

Kevin followed Dari. "Cody's your human?" he asked. The human who'd turned Dari as mushy as his true form was. "One player games aren't nearly as fun as beating others with a friend. You can come visit and play."
Maia waited for Toby.

Dari laughed. "He's my boyfriend, and he happens to be human, yes. Luckily he knows all about us." In fact, you might be going to school with him. Dari left that last part off. What kid liked to think about school in the summer, even if they were already in classes?"
Toby waited behind an open door, waiting. "Kevin, are you going with him?"

"Yeah, I'll go with Dari," Kevin said, and smiled at Dari. "He's going to introduce me to his human." He was looking forward to this.

Dari waved an affirmative and got into the car. Toby did as well and drove off. Dari headed in the other direction. He trusted Cody to not talk about school and he trusted Kevin to not be too much of an a**. Besides, Cody had talked about Kevin at length without ever meeting him.

Kevin got into the car. "Your human, do you think he'll like me?" Kevin asked. He hadn't really met a human outside of HQ and the agents that'd driven him around. "He's not an agent?"

"I think so," Dari said. As much as any teacher liked a mischievous teenager. At least he didn't have to give Kevin a talk about how they all had to pretend to be human. "No, he's not an agent. He's a high school teacher."
