I've finally read Mechanicum (yeah I'm behind) and it's a great read, how great? The ending gave me a nightmare, that's how great it is. The author doesn't deviate from the background and nicely shows how the Emperor fits in with the Omnissiah and the Void Dragon plus it shows off the brutal civil war on Mars before the battle for Terra and how the Dark Mechanicum came into being.
It also gives a cameo to the Hellstorm cannon used by the Imperial Guard faction in Dark Crusade.

I'm trying to read Soul Drinkers and I just can't get into it. Like, not at all. I thought it would be different but I have to admit, after reading some Gaunt's Ghosts(okay, all of it) I don't really enjoy Space Marines anymore apart from the Horus Heresy stuff.
I just can't grow attached to the characters because they're just not likeable by comparason to regular humans.
Edit; Well except for Garviel Loken. He's probobly my favourite Space Marine ever.

Thanks to insomnia I've been reading up on my backlog of books and just now I've finished up on Star of Damocles, which is the second novel in the Rogue Trader series and an interesting introduction to the Imperial side of the Damocles Gulf invasion. While the novel only goes to the opening moves of the invasion of Da'lyth it is an interesting read and one light on violence and heavier on politics and rivalries between the numerous Imperial factions, so this is not one for the kids.

Hmm, I read some of the stories found in the Tales of Heresy anthology set during the Horus Heresy. Surprisingly Dan Abnett's story is rather mediocre plus boring and the non-violent entry by Graham McNeill is the best in the bunch. Not giving away too much but the last church on Terra is to be destroyed thus freeing mankind of the evils of religion. On a dark and rainy night a man naming himself Revelation visits the last church to talk with the priest residing there. All I can say is that this story gives an interesting insight as to why the Emperor abolishes religion along with how Terra was during the Unification Wars.

See, I thought about buying Tales of Heresy, but I decided against it. Instead I bought Titanicus an the "Imperial Guard Omnibus" which has 15 Hours, Death World and Rebel Winter.

I got that omnibus a while ago for the added short stories. Personally I found Death World and Rebel Winter rather mediocre, only Fifteen Hours was a great read.

Lady Blodwynn You wouldn't happen to have Double Eagle in your collection by any chance now would you? I have, it's an okay read, if a little too fixated on the whole "Battle of Britain homage" angle.
