"You are not normal." she said again, handing her the red stone. "A short while ago, I did not own a red stone. It used to be a cat's eye, a clear quarts with a stripe of gold in it's center. And then it turned red." She handed it to Piper, fumbling a moment as she searched for the woman's hand. "You, and the balck one, do not belong here. Life is a delicate balance, a blanance that is my job to keep. You have seriously tipped my scales, by comming here. You have thrown souls into places they cannot survive."

She went to one of her cupboards, opened it, and began rifling through. She pulled out any number of objects, from goblin hands to a dried apple. "I help you know not because I am a nice person. Dear lord no. I help you know because if either of you, the red or the black, dies in this world, then the fabrics of time will start to unravle." She looked over her shoulder, staring into the hearth. "Am I being clear?"

Once again stepping into their own shoes proved bad once again. But also given the current situation...it was a good thing because that meant that Piper didn't have to 'run the gauntlet' so to speak. But she nodded to the oracle and then looked at the stone she now held. Red, of course, that made sense. "When we planes crossed into this world...we stepped into our own shoes and took our own places." Then she was quiet a moment and turned in her chair to watch the woman as she explained further and went about things. "Very clear." Don't die. Piper wasn't planning on either of them dying.

"Good." She started her rummaging agian, moving from cupoard to cupboard. "i too, am not normal here. In fact, no human here is normal. We cannot survive underground, without the light of the sun." She took out a jar of some black, viscous liquid, felt it about,. shook her head nad continued looking. "This world is new. The surcase is inhosbitible. But there is a way to unlock the surface, so that our souls might live in their environment once more." She looked at Piper's eyes. "When your tasks are complete, I expect you to come back here, and fulfuill your end of the bargin. Understood?"

Something she touched on which Piper hadn't given thought to at all. There were humans here...and humans indeed couldn't survive very long without the sun or light. Her time in the Underfoot had seemingly erased that knowledge from her mind for a while. Not to mention she was an elf an thought more of her own survival circumstances than that of a human. "You're saying that when I cure Malik and do the like...you want me to come back here and help you...bring the surface world here to one that flourishes and supports human life." Suddenly it seemed that quite literally, the world had been set on her shoulders. But she didn't have to thing twice about it, she would do anything to save Malik. "I understand." Good lord, what had see just agreed to and how much would Malik yell at her for it?

She smiled. "I am not asking you to chop off a leg, dear. It will be a long time comming before th surface is fit fo us to live on, perhaps even beyond my life time. But it has to be pre-pared. The elemants must be set into motion." She chuckled. "For this reason I do not speak in riddles."

She threw a few things into her bubbling pot. Most of it looked like vegitation of one kind or another, but other things were not so nice: a spleen, an eye ball, sometihng black that looked like it was half digested...

"It willt ake an hour for that to boil down enough for me to get it all into a bottle." She scanned the room. "How many people do you have with you dear? I cannot see them."

"Then I guess we will both be benefiting in the long run." She got to keep Malik, the oracle got this world salvation type thing going. Piper was still brewing up all sorts of possibilities on that. But she watched again, a hand held up to her eyes to fend off some light and thus keep her vision. Damn fire. Hm...seemed more than less likely that Malik would be drinking the ick in the cauldron...gross. But Piper shook her head as if to clear it and gave a look to those with her. "There are three others in the room with us, and then there is a Zephyr horse and a griffin outside." Then she remembered the woman was indeed blind and decided to go about giving her a picture. "Two are brothers, twins. They are feline in look but walk upright and have wings. One has black fur with green eyes, named Onyx. His older brother has white fur with gray stripes on his tail, and has green eyes as well, his name is Moonstone." She paused a moment, looking to Warren. "The other is names Warren and is a mage of sorts, a skinny little thing with slightly pointed ears."

She tapped her fingers together. "In the long run, yes." She listened intently with her head cocked to one side. "Two Vah? Goodness, I never though they would come this far out of their own plane." She shook her head. "I am completely blind to those two. They are much too knew." She talked over their heads, as if they were not there, because to her they were not. "Warren? I seem to recall..." she smiled. "Oh yes, his father was here some time ago. I remeber that face well now."

She stretched out the kinks in her back. "I will tell Tanundra that there are six leaving. That way he will not eat any of you."

"And how goes the tournament this year? I would have liked to have seen it but," she waved a hand in front of her eyes. "Well, I could listen to the cheers in the crowd at least."

Seemed casual conversation was ensuing, and Piper was quite happy to oblige. This woman, the oracle, apparently had some vast knowledge of things. Like she knew of Vah and the plane they came from. "Adventure leads to the corners of the plane, I always say." Then a nod, "Onyx said that Warren's father was the one to give us this amulet." A look to Warren. "Thank you father for me next time you see him." Though Piper did have to hold a bit of a laugh as she mentioned the dragon. But sobered easily at the mentioning of the tournament. "It's nothing but a crooked game. Magic enhanced guards, poison, I wouldn't be surprised to find more than just that either. But of course myself and Malik, since we replaces ourselves, are seemingly quite he bit of spectacle around there." A look to the twins. "In the first mock games, Onyx finished in the top seven, and Moon came in second. Malik got first and he chose jousting." Another laugh. "Onyx stopped a man's lineage, and then him and Malik went at each other, they tied. And well...that pretty much brings us here. Though I don't know if I'm still doing my archery event what with all this."

She laughed softly. "The corners, yes. I have been places, seen things. But Vah...their future is always so cloudy." She fetched them each a glass of wine, a nice warm red wine. just sometihng to geep their hands busy while the other tlaked. "Warren was a sickly child when his Father found his way to this doorstep. I was just a child myself then. His son was stricken with some rare illness he said, needed a cure he said." She smiled. "oh, we gave him a cure all right."

Then a disapopinted frown. "Really? The games used to be such a wonderful thing. I remeber stories..." then a grunt and a mutter under her rbeath, "i never do get blessed with visions of that place...would be nice to see what it actually looks like...but I digress. Poeple used to come from all over Labyrith, ever from other planes. Which gave people like me very large headaches, but they awlays left after the tourmey."

She laughed at the discription of the mock battle. "Wonderful, really. Tell me, are they still trying to use horses under here?"
PostPosted: Sat Sep 03, 2005 3:55 pm

Piper looked to Warren with a raised eyebrow. Okay now she wondered, but she wasn't going to ask on that issue, despite how funny it might be or embarrassing the little skinny mage. "Well they're not wonderful anymore then. Apparently as Warren has told us, the king is starting to lose grasp of things." Though she paused to contemplate. So, the Labyrinth tournament was quite the event in it's time. "Not to offend, but I find this place...not at all ideal. The humans think they have dominion over everything and enslave the other races. All of Deep Water was built with Elvish skill..it's easy to see in the stone work." Piper shrugged lightly, hands grasping at the glass of warm wine in front of her and shook her head lightly as if to clear it, blinking a few times at her own vision. Still daylight from her view. "No, they are using rather large lizards as mounts, Onyx owns one. Me and Malik are the only ones with horses it seems...though ours are far from normal anyway." Quiet for a moment before a question popped up. "Oracle...you seem to know what goes on in this world...what was my role here? And what were we doing?" If those questions proved fruitful, she had another. She intended to find out if this third party was myth or not.

"Thus have humans always done. Dominate and use. Which is another reason why we must be moved to the surface, so that the other races may live in peace, and so that we destroy only ourselves." HSe sighed. "It is not fitting. The evlish races to be enslaved, the dwarves and gnomes too, though they are put to work where no one can see."
"No more horses? They must have finally died out. They did not live well off of the seaweed here, they need grass ripened by the sun. Not Moss light. Lizards? Yes, and they will die when they are moved to the surface" She shookeher head agin. "We humans just are not good at learning to live anew."

The Oracle studied her a long moment. "You purpose used to be nothing more than to creat chaos, so that those with good hearts might find themselves. But now...I wil be blunt. Your future is not hidden from me. But for me to disclose it might have...negative effects. It never does well for people to learn their future, they either strive towards it and end up making the wrong choices, or strive to change it, and end up making the wrong choices. You can see why I hesitate to tell you this information, yes?"

So she wasn't even going to get that was she? Fair enough. They had been doing well enough this far on their own and she was sure that her and Malik would continue to manage. But of course, the blind couldn't lead the blind so to speak, so Piper let that drop. Besides, going with the flow was half the fun. Though Piper tilted her head slightly in that questioning way for a moment, one hand idly adjusting her bandana, then tugging at her collar in normal fidgety motions. "Humans on the surface and others below it." An interesting little concept really. But she fell silent again, leaning on her elbows at the table, hands rubbing at her eyes. "May I ask what you're going to have me do, or do I have to wait for that answer as well?" Not a mocking question or anything in the sort, just a question.

Fire. that was what was on Malik's mind. that searing, burning fire that was creeping it's way into his mind as well. his kin was very hot to touch now, and he never stopped sweating. The eyes had lost thier focus.

"L' cha'kohk zhah zotreth'mal. ol's lac'nou ulu inbau uns'aa, ulu kku l' emp'poss. vel'klar zhah Piper, Usstan ssinssrin piper. Xar'zith. sila uns'aa xar'zith, sithe' d' xar'zith..folbol ulu vrine'winith l' chath. Chath. Ssinssrigg zhah chath. L'alurl faerbol zhah mrimmd'ssinss."

That got a chuckle, before the nearest item got flung across the room.

"Cha'kohk mina! cha'kohk mina jal. Piper whol morfelith udossa doer ghil, l' rivven whol l' il'yandrosa nindel zhah aglust d'lil kyuvr, l' tu'rilthiin whol l' rath'argh nind jous"

These little oubursts had been going on for some time now, despite the groaning and thrashing and moaning inbetween.

Onyx had been listening, but like Moonstone didn't step beyond that doorway, thugh he was right by it both ears flicked forward to listen in on the conversation. what in the world was this woman asking of Piper? what was she supposed to do, wave a magic wand and make the surface hospitable?
PostPosted: Sat Sep 03, 2005 4:23 pm

She smiled. "I suppose that is fair enough. Unlocking the surcae is key to human survivle. But the elemants have not yet been awakened there. Plants cannot grow because there is no water to fall from the sky. Water cannot fall because there is no wind to carry it. Wind cannot travel because there is not eart to break up its path. It's a simple concept really. All I need is to find these keys. They are here, in Labyrinth somewhere. I need to find them. I want you to help me look." The pun was certainly intended.

She could tell though, that the woman was a tad disapointed at not getting any information on her ourpose here. That was always a difficult thing to accept. "I understand that you being...thrust into the lifestyle id difficult, dear. And I am sorry that I cannot help you in much of any way. A soul is a soul, whether it's body is killed or dies. And sometimes, a body's soul has no purpose but to bring it to the afterlife." She smiled. "I can tell you that yours is a littel more pleasant then that though."

"Keys to the elements...." It sounded like a fairy tale from her childhood really...only she wasn't a child and this wasn't being read from a book. And by keys she assumed she meant things, not actual keys because that just didn't make any sense whatsoever. Or it may very well make perfect sense in this world. But she was definitely getting fidgety that was more sure. "Well, I can give you my word that I'll do as you ask." Elven honor, it was a great thing. "After all, you have what I need to save my love." Collar tug and then a nod to the woman. "It is hard...but I'm not alone. I don't have to go through the journey on my own as once I would have before." A small smile from the elf with another nod.
