Okay... we need to give this another shot, then.

Somebody's got to start a D&D campaign thread for us all... We had one before in Leviathan, but our DM went AWOL.

'fore we started at level 5... I'd say anywhere between and 5 is a good place to start from, since it's still relatively early, but you're not getting one-shotted into oblivion...

Then again, we could always use a GURPS system to provide more customizability (make it a little more like Gaia with rules)... though I've always been a die-hard fan of strict rules for the general, and specifics that you can come up with when you get to it.

"What happens if I call a flame strike down on that crate of potions of exploding?"
"Death. Unto us all."
"Cool. Structural damage?"
"*Checks the list.* ...and a roof collapse."
"Bitchin'. ...I'm gonna wait until we're a little further away. ^^;"

Boundaries are a good thing... they encourage creativity and thinking outside the lines, looking for loopholes in a defined system to create something that wasn't meant to be. Without them, it just gets... stupid.

I'm bewildered that you had the perseverence to procure yourself that dictionary. surprised

GURPS is basically an open system, sort of like Linux is compared to Windows. I don't have a .pdf of the book or I'd send it to you, I paged through it at the bookstore one day and tried to find one, but couldn't.

3.5, I'd say. It's the newest, most tweaked version... that and I've memorized the Core rulebooks (Player's Handbook and DM's Guide), as well as a few other things from various expansion sources.

I suppose anything of official publishment would be fair game, and race choices would be restricted to the level modifiers. o-O At level 5 you could only go up to a +4 due to race, so we wouldn't have things like mind flayers in there... Dopplegangers, maybe, but...

We have to do that already.
