I started to play Marching Baritone [today. sweatdrop ] and I used to play Oboe. Yeah, it's a pretty big jump. Lol. Does anyone have any tips or hints for me to get better? Uhr, I think I'm doing pretty well but I'm having problems sticking on a single tone [It'll get high then low and such] and also I can't tell when you have the right note when you use the same fingering for four different notes [lol. yeah, i wanted to try marching band out so this is what I get. xD!] and also what I should buy? :] thanks.<3

Tubas ROCK. Sure, they're 40 lbs., but they can be used as a weapon (and I have used mine as one before... I hope I can explain the dents to the teacher... confused ). I've noticed that 3 out of 5 tubas in my school are pervs. Is that trend at any other school?

Atleast at middle school we did. But only 2 (OUT OF 10 scream )of our trombones are going into high school band. gonk One of them I hate with a passion the other one was my stand partner and she's doing guard during marching season so I'm stuck with the a*****e all of marching season. evil **sorry I kinda got off subject there at teh end... sweatdrop **

I play baritone. I love playing a marching baritone though. Concert baritones are too big and are just a pain in the butt. Our trombones suck because they aren't loud enough but our tuba is good and loud. He was asked to march as an 8th grader but he turned it down because he wasn't ready to carry a sousaphone....It sucks! >_<

Lots and lots of long tones. I switched from flute to bari sax to tuba, but I know where you're at. Low Brass kicks... glutes. I've been in for four years now, and I have to say that it's amazing. And I'm a big perv now. That's okay though, because at our school, tuba player have three options: you can be a big perv, you can do a lot of drugs, or... you can be a robot. We have a fine mix.

But for your tone problems, I'd say it just takes time for your ear to remember what the pitch sounds like. I'd say it just becomes more of a problem in the higher register, where almost everything seems like its either first, second, or open...
