Colour rose ever so faintly in Lancaeriel's cheeks, and she looked back out over the ocean. "I'm afraid sleep eluded me," she admitted quietly. "Now that we are out here and I have nothing - well, nothing physical - to occupy me, I find that my mind wanders ... and a busy mind is not always a good thing."

Holding the blanket around her shoulders in place with one hand, she reached up with her other hand and brushed her hair away from her face.

"I nearly forgot," she realized suddenly. "I promised I would teach you to make light orbs today ..." She looked down at Miyuki. "When would you like to learn?"

"How about after breakfast?" Miyuki suggested.

She would have said now, but she wasn't sure if Alyse was going to come back and announce it was breakfast soon or not and a lesson isn't something she wanted interruption in.

Lancaeriel blinked in surprise. "Is it that time already?"

She turned around completely and looked around. When she saw how many people were out and about (aside from the crew) she seemed genuinely astonished.

"I suppose I ought to get dressed," she murmured bemusedly.

Miyuki couldn't help but giggle at Lancaeriel, this sort of spacing out seemed to be pretty common for her.

"Yes, that would be a good idea," she nodded, "I'll wait here for you okay?"

Lancaeriel laughed softly along with Miyuki.

"Very well," she agreed. "I shouldn't be long."

She swept off toward the passengers' cabins to dress herself. She was back within a few minutes, fully dressed, her hair brushed and braided to keep it from flying in the wind. She had nothing else with her this time, but she seemed just as distracted as she had been when Miyuki had first approached her.

"Well, I feel better at any rate," she smiled. "I hope I didn't keep you waiting."

The kitsune shook her head at that, it wasn't like she had waited too long and besides it gave that extra time for when breakfast was called.

"I think breakfast is ready just a second ago, so the timing is perfect," Miyuki admitted.

Ai squeaked in agreement from where she sat at Miyuki's feet. Already though the eevee was getting up and trying to get the women to head to the galley for something to eat.

Lancaeriel smiled and nodded. "Off we go, then," she murmured.

Breakfast was a bit quiet, considering how many people were still asleep, and once breakfast was over Alyse and Leyenda offered to help Arwen with the cleanup. The others dispersed to do their own thing.

Lessons took place, exercise was gotten, and within the week, the sailing experience got old. Brooke especially was bored with it, and more anxious than ever to get to the place where her great-uncle lived.

Unfortunately for the little girl, it was still a long way away: by the time they reached Amon Darthir, their first stop, half a year had passed, and though it had been summer when they'd left Namonuito, it was now winter, and each morning the deck had a light layer of snow on it.

At long last, late one evening, the call rang out above deck: "Land ho!"

Miyuki stomped her feet into her new boots before heading above deck. She frowned a bit, winter wasn't her favourite season because it was the only season where not wearing footwear would be foolish. Getting up from her bed she slipped on the hanfu-like outer coat that she would wear to keep himself warm, tying up the sash. It was thick like a coat would, but it was longer than her dress while the sleeves were an inch shorter than her dress sleeves making it look like it was part of her dress.

It helped that it was white, white went with about everything and her uncle had even stitched snowflakes into it just to get the point across.

"Hmmm.... he might have gone overboard a bit," Miyuki fiddled with the hem before grabbing her staff.

Normally she didn't carry her staff with her, but she knew she would have to eventually get use to doing so until it was habit. So, she had begun doing so, deciding making it a habit now was better than her forgetting later.

"Come on Ai, Senka," she murmured as she headed out.

"Don't forget your scroll furball!" Senka spoke out, "What's the point with coming up with it if you're going to forget it?"

Miyuki blinked and turned back grabbing a small hand scroll looking at it before tucking it under her coat and into a belt.

"I don't even know if it works," Miyuki murmured.

Senka leaped off Lancerial's bed and landed on Miyuki's shoulder, "It doesn't matter, like your staff you should remember it."

Ai squeaked in agreement to this as she ran circles around Miyuki.

"Right...." Miyuki sighed, "I think sometimes I'm making too many changes, I don't feel like myself."

"Or you're finally your age," Senka stuck out her tongue and clinged to Miyuki's shoulder as her owner began to move to the above deck, "You were the first to be an adult."

Senka gave her owner a catty grin at that statement and it was true. Miyuki was physically sixteen years old, but it never felt like back in the Southland. Now after half a year of taking her education into her own hands it was beginning to show.

"Whatever," Miyuki breathed as the first cold air hit her lungs.

She made her way to the side of the ship and peered out to try and catch a glimpse of the island. Though knowing elven sight, when the call first came out, it was way before she could ever see it.

The mers were already out on deck, completely unaffected by the cold and therefore had not dressed for the occasion.

Andarien was also up on deck, standing next to a now much larger Ponyta. The Pokemon had grown during the half-year trip, and now its shoulder was at Andarien's ribs. Eon had also grown, though of course not nearly as much, and Andarien had worked hard with both of them to train them. The training had also kept him fit, which made him feel good about himself.

He had already been up on deck when the crew member had shouted his land sighting. He didn't mind this weather. It had amazed and terrified him the first time he had seen snow falling, but his fear had soon turned to wonder, a sense that had only become stronger when Shiro had taught him about where snow came from and what it was. He had proper clothes for it, too: his new boots from Tor Karad, thick cotton pants from Uncle Helen, and a heavy woolen jacket over his shirt and vest. He even had a warm scarf wrapped around his neck, and only his ears were uncovered, though his cap still covered the top of his head.

"Do you see it, Mi?" he asked when Miyuki joined the group of people who were peering into the darkness that lay ahead of them. "I can just see a little dot, but I think that's it."

There was a tap, tap, tap behind them as Aethos and Alassëa, staff in hand, came up behind them.

"I wonder if we'll see any light from the city as we get closer," Aethos mused, overhearing Andarien's question to his sister.

Miyuki had to squint to really see anything at all.

"No better than you, I wish I had a telescope," Miyuki admitted.

It had never occurred to her to buy one and now she was regretting it. She forgot about how far elven sight was. She looked up at Aethos when she heard his question.

"Do you think anyone will spot us, or be on the look out for a ship?"

She knew it was rare, but there was always a chance they might be watching for ships now.

Aethos pursed his lips thoughtfully.

"Well," he mused, "even if they're not watching for us, I'm sure someone will spot us before we get too close. There's usually someone patrolling on a roc, even under my sister's rule. Better safe than sorry, she said ... which as you might imagine is quite different from my father's reason for keeping patrols."

"What is a telescope?" Alassëa asked curiously. "I don't believe I have ever heard that word before ..."
PostPosted: Tue Sep 04, 2012 8:26 pm

Miyuki nodded before turning to Alassea, "A telescope is a device you look through and it makes objects appear closer than they actually are. Elves can actually see very far compared to other races. So even though someone called out that they have spotted land, I can only see a dot, and that is if I squint."

So really if it was her up in the crow's nest she wouldn't be able to tell it was land without a telescope until the others on deck had probably already spotted it.

"Mm ... something of which I shall never have need, then," Alassëa smiled. "I have to admit though, I am looking forward to reaching the city. I would like to meet Aethos' family, and his people. But ... I must also admit ... I am nervous."

Aethos squeezed Alassëa's hand. He wanted to be able to assure her that she had nothing to worry about, but truth be told, even he was a little apprehensive about returning to the place where so many people had feared him.

"It'll be fine," Miyuki assured Alassea.

She grinned, and really in some ways she was saying that to Aethos too. Leaning against her staff she looked back out to where the island was supposed to be.

"Everyone is going to be so surprised," she added.

At that, Aethos smiled and put his arms around Alassëa. "That, they will be, " he agreed softly.

Suddenly Earendil appeared behind the group, careful not to step on any of the Pokemon that were around.

"Come, you two," he said to Andarien and Miyuki, putting a hand on each of their shoulders. "You should get a good night's sleep. It will be morning before we arrive anyways."

"You too," Aethos told Alassëa; but the blind woman shook her head firmly.

"You're not going to sleep, and I'm not going to leave you out here alone," she told him.
