At the sound of the knock, Kiro glanced up in surprise. With an acknowledgement that he was coming, he rose, closing 'the book' with a gentle thump as the tome swung closed on itself.
He was surprised to see Alyosha at the door as he opened it. He hadn't seen him for a while now, busy as the elder seemed to be. He was also curious about the bottle, but didn't comment, instead assuming Alyosha had come for his book.
He smiled a little, his ears and tail twitching a little as he spoke. "I've got the book right here... I kept meaning to come and find you with it."

Alyosha was amused at Kiro's attitude sometimes. He could seem so studious and careful at times and yet when he'd seen him play with the Aerandir.
He brought his brain back into gear so that he wasn't left standing in silence at the door. "ahh the book... you don't need to give me it back yet, really, I don't use it much anymore, like I told you" he smiled kindly at Kiro.
"I have a bit of a mission for you, Kiro-kun" he held up the large jar in front of him. In the centre was a tiny tuft attatched to a tail and a multitonal brown feather.

"If it's not the book, then wh...?"
Kiro blinked broadly as Alyosha held up the jar. He unintentionally leaned forward a little, peering at the contents, before leaning back straight and glancing at Alyosha with a confused glance. "A mission?" As he mumbled the word his face took on a slightly worried expression...

Seeing his worried expression, Alyosha tried to placate the neko-jin. "Don't worry, Kiro-kun, its a little something which will help you in your studies" and perhaps other things, he thought to himself, noting that the boy spent far to much inside.
He offered the bottle towards him. "In here is an Aerandir, one I wish you to take care of... I know this is a bit of a surprise but I have confidence in your abilities, Kiro-kun"

Kiro simply stood and blinked broadly as Alyosha held the bottle towards him. He didn't reach for it, or even twitch as though he was going to take it. He just stared.
Then he glanced up, his worried expression not having left. "You mean...?" A pause. Then he spoke again, his tone soft as he shook his head, his ears leaning back noticably in uncertainty. "I can't..."

Alyosha looked at him, hard. "Kiro-kun" he started, wondering what the best tactic would be "Kiro.. are you telling me my judgement, the professors judgement even, is bad?" he tried his best to look incredulous.
"Both of us thought that this, of all the littlest creatures, could use someone of your nature to take care of it and at the same time help with your studies... you wouldn't leave it all alone and abandoned, would you?, now that its already been placed together?"
Alyosha's mockery of an affronted look hid a slight smile. He hadn't spoken to the professor for a while, the Aerandir artefacts hadn't, indeed, begun to join, but still, surely this boys pure heart would not allow for such abandonment, even if it was false.

"No...no I just..." Kiro felt himself trail off as Alyosha continued after his first question, his eyes wide. This was as close to a 'reprimand' as he'd come since getting here, and it made him lower his gaze from the speaker, studying his toes studiously.
When Alyosha had finished, Kiro forced himself to look up again. How could he do this? He was barely able to look after himself let alone something else that would be dependant on him, for a while at least. Sure, the Aerandir were wonderful - but... Kiro sighed gently in his train of thought. He didn't like resonsibility. If he didn't think he could do something well, he didn't usually want to try. Studying was entirely different. That was something he knew he could do well. But this... well...
He glanced again at the jar during this silent pondering. If what Alyosha had said was true - and why would he lie? - something had started that wasn't going to be stopped. And when the Aerandir 'came into being' as it were... who would look after it...?
He finally glanced up again, his gaze a little pleading, but it was obvious he was giving in. "There'd be nobody else who could look after it?"

Alyosha shook his head gravely, his newfound acting skills coming into play. "No, noone but yourself... there's no more room on the Island, you see..." he trailed off suspensefully with a sigh.
"Perhaps.. no.. we couldn't destroy it..but.." he turned, whirled even as if facing away from Kiro through anguish. his ears pricked as he listened for any signs of a softening of resolve. He knew the boy lacked confidence but sometimes people just had to grow up and take responsibility. Too many of the academic types were mollycoddled.

Quietly Kiro blinked, able to feel his tail swishing around behind him. He couldn't help feeling like he was doing something wrong by declining. That thought alone made him uneasy, but when Alyosha actually turned away from him, it was the last straw. He glanced down, his ears drooping down a little more as he did so.
He sighed before raising his head again and speaking to Alyosha's back, his tone soft. "If there's nobody else who will... I mean, it shouldn't be left alone like that..."

Alyosha turned back round, a big, thankful grin on his face. "Oh, Kiro, you're a savior, thank you so much!" he explaimed, grinning maniacally on the inside.
"I'll see to it that your quarters are enlarged so that it'll be more comfortable for you." he noted, wondering to himself what else he'd need. "Don't worry about provisions, it'l all be catered for under our budget" he smiled at the boy, offering the jar forward again. "Kiro-kun, you'll be helping with a miracle..."

Blinking widely, Kiro reached forward and relieved Alyosha of the jar. He could feel his hands shaking slightly as he did, the worried expression still not gone. Was he emotionally mature enough to handle, what was essentially, a child under his care? What he didn't realise is that, if he was mature enough to be questioning it, chances were he was.
He felt his gaze move up to meet Alyosha's again, as he balanced the bottle in the crook of an elbow, steadying it with his other hand. His ears twitched up a little and he smiled, slowly getting used to the idea. His voice was soft as he murmured an indistinct, but audibly grateful, "Thanks..."

Alyosha smiled as he seen the hint of confidence light up within Kiro's eyes. He was sure, now, that it had been the right idea. "I.. uh" he looked at Kiro and the jar, thinking he should leave them to "get to know" each other.
"You should use that book, too look up the artifacts.." he said, smiling. "Sedge Wren and Kangaroo rat" he said simply. "I should go get things arranged for your room to be expanded. He waves one hand about as he turned to go.

"Sedge Wren and Kangaroo Rat," murmured Kiro with a quiet nod as he watched Alyosha meander away. He closed the door quietly, turning away and regarding the jar with a strange air of fondness, now he was getting used to the idea.
That book, it seemed, was just getting handier and handier...

It was a new day for Fae as she trugged her family along side her, Twizzler following behind her obidiently wilst the Fenthry took over their guardian's shoulder.
Pueblo heeled at her keeper's feet, but the flowy green skirt distracted her. If it should happen to gain within the range of her beak, she would gently nibble at it every so often.
Fae walked the crew inside and got everyone situated, pointing in each direction to where they could find the bathrooms and where they shouldn't go.
Twizzler watched Fae, Pueblo, a nd the Fenthry leave for the kitchen; he would have openly helped, but his child mind told him to stay and look around. It was a new place he hadn't been too and there were many doors to explore! But first, a quick walk around the main room to observe every detail.

Careful preparation had led up to this moment. Firstly, she had gone out and bought some new underwear. She highly doubted that the night would lead to that, but ever since she talked to Nyxa she had become self-conscious of her cotton bulk-bought undies. She had then carefully dressed herself in Myra's gift, and furtively tried to pull down the skirt. Then came the huge platform shoes she could barely walk in but were the only suitable pair left after Delta's sabotage. Lastly was a rather messsy and sad attempt at pulling up her hair. As she trudged towards Aly's porch, her eyes were cast downward. In order to prevent tripping, she was carefully watching her feet and where she stepped- and she was also meanwhile still trying to pull down the skirt.
