It took a minute for Lin to understand what the tailor meant, while she knew a lot of the history and background the references wasn't something that came naturally to her. She blushed when he realized what he had meant.

"Ne.... I.... I'm not of Men," Lin explained sheepishly, "I come from a far away place, where there are winged people called Angels."

Really, really far away she added mentally, but that was something else all together. Though she had to giggle inside, that was one way of seeing things. So much for people no longer thinking she was human.

Rhyki didn't seem to be put off at all. On the contrary, he just smiled brighter. "Truly?" he beamed. "Then I am thrice blessed! Who knew that such beautiful beings as yourself could exist? But then, I am but a humble tailor, who am I to know such things?"

He finished with her measurements and motioned for her to stay there. A moment later, he was back with a bolt of spidersilk. He measured out the first piece, then took a pair of scissors and cut it, then held it up to Lin. "Please," he smiled warmly, "tell me about your people. I am anxious to learn!"

Lin smiled and chuckled a bit, who would have thought someone was just as interested. She looked thoughtful, it wasn't that she knew a lot of about the angels because....

"I can't tell you much how whole societies of angels live, my family lives near a trading hub, and because of that all sorts of races not just trade there but live there. The land where I come from, all races live together, and there's a lot of them. Not just angels, but people like Kaito, elves, humans.... I don't know if I've seen a dwarf there, but I'm sure there are a few... and other races that have no name in the elvish tongue. It's like a mixing pot, we're all different but because there's so many of us that are different, we just no longer notice those differences."

Especially for her, she could claim family with Kaito in the same breath she could claim family with any of the mers.

"It sounds like a wonderful place," the tailor murmured as he continued to measure, using a charcoal pencil to make marks on the spidersilk. "It doesn't sound as if it is in any of the Four Lands, though ... you must indeed be from very far away."

He had tried traveling once, but had found that was altogether not quite for him. Instead, he was content to remain in one place and simply talk to those who traveled.

"But with so many races in one place," he continued, "surely there must be conflict between them ... or is there?"

"Rarely," Lin replied, "If there is, it's rarely about race. It's about normal things that neighbours would fight about. If it is about race, chances are at least one of the parties involve come from outside the city from places where each race originated from."

She hadn't seen anything like that yet, but she had heard of it. True there were also body hunters but they also sort of lived outside the norm of the city, but crime generally did.

"Mom said that a long time ago there was, she said it had taken a lot of conflict, a lot of wars and many many centuries before cities like the one we live in to sprout up."

Rhyki smiled sadly. "It is sad that so much war and conflict is required before there can be peace," he murmured, "but such is life. Everything comes at a cost. But we live in peace now, and I pray that it lasts."

He continued with the measuring and marking, fitting out first a shirt and then a pair of pants for Lin.

"Are you sure that you wish it all to remain white?" he asked as he finished up with the marking of the pants. "A bit of colour would go well, I think ..."

"What colour would be good for desert traveling?" Lin asked, "I only requested it because I originally come from a place where it snows in the winter so summer... isn't as hot as it can get outside this town in the Southland."

She wouldn't mind if it was another colour, she would prefer a bit of colour in her clothes, it just never occurred to her to think of what type.

The tailor looked at her thoughtfully. "For desert, perhaps blue," he suggested. "But a pale shade, and not the whole thing ... a design, perhaps? Dyed or embroidered onto it? I'm thinking ... perhaps for you, some sort of ... animal or something. A peaceful animal. Something of a gentle beauty ... like yourself."

Kaito looked up at Lin from where he and Earendil had been talking with the woman behind the counter. "Sounds like he knows you pretty well," he grinned. "Butterflies would fit that description."

Lin blushed while her life had been connected closely to butterflies most of her life, she was not one to describe herself using the word gentle in it.

"Butterflies are always nice," she admitted.

As long as they were one clothes or not talking, they were very nice creatures actually. It was only when they had a lot to say they weren't as nice to be around.

Rhyki looked up at Lin thoughtfully. "And would you like it embroidered or dyed?" he asked her. "Though embroidery is more beautiful, and strengthens the clothes, it is also more expensive, and I can promise you that my wife's skill with the dye is unsurpassed by anyone that I know."

"Would it be one flat colour?" Earendil asked, interrupting the conversation. He had seen different examples of work, and he knew that one single colour could never look as good as embroidery.

The tailor shook his head. "A variety of shades of one colour," he replied. "The colour is of course at your discretion," he added to Lin.

Lin looked thoughtful at that, it would be fine as a dye she was sure. It wasn't like she was looking for anything fancy....

"I think having it dyed would be fine," she finally replied, "In a blue would be pretty."

Blue was the colour she most preferred anyhow.

Rhyki nodded, smiling at Lin. "Yes, it would suit you very nicely," he murmured. "Then the last question is, exactly how would you like the design to be, and where. Or if you are not sure, then you can leave it to our discretion, and we will try to choose something that again is suiting to your appearance."

He smiled at Lin and motioned for her to step down from the stool as he waited for her answer.

Stepping down, Lin decided design just wasn't her thing. At least not design on clothes because she really was clueless.

"I'm really not sure," she replied, "I don't have anything in particular in mind."

The man nodded. "Then we will think of something, I am sure," he smiled. "Perhaps something different for each set of clothes. After all, having everything the same is not so fun, yes?" He laughed. "Now, if you would be so kind as to return tonight, at your convenience, I shall have something prepared for you to try on, and we shall see if it needs adjusting."

Lin decided she must be a very plain person because she was perfectly okay with wearing the same thing day in and day out (even though she didn't do that while attending school but that was at Helen's begging).

"I'll do that then," Lin nodded in agreement.
