I played defense mainly (lots more fun dealing the pain than getting it lol)
we used to scare guys alot lol - they would get alligator arms after we gave em 4 or 5 head hunter tackles on completed passes
our pass defense would be horrible first quarter, then professional the rest of the game once they got scared lol

well and when I played on offense I would hit em full force back when they tried to do it to me lol (most of us played both ways)

yea it mainly hurts in the start of the game, after half time, then all week during practice (adrenaline makes you immune to most of it for a good while of the games)

thats why you do the basics 1: hit em as hard as you can 2: put your facemask on the ball 3: wrap up both arms and drag em down if step one and two failed lol
on offense the stiff arm and juke is good (I just hit em back as hard as I could and bout 1/3 of the time just bowled em over lol)
