Michael shook his head. "I'm sorry, no. There's a chance we could try and talk to them, but it's not guaranteed. It's just to try."
Seances in the past had been successful, but they were draining for him. They were painful. He didn't like them.

Alex didn't seem to like the idea that it wasn't guaranteed. He pulled away from Michael and wiped at his eyes again. "Can we play a game instead?" he suggested. "We can scare that tech guy. I don't like him."

Michael grinned.
"Oh?" He knew better than to ask why. "Sure. What do you want to do?"

"I want to scare him," Alex said vaguely. "You should help. Can you hide just as well as I can?" He offered Michael his hand. "What do you think would scare him most?"

Michael disappeared and picked Alex up. Alright. Scare Dari. He was going to go ahead and assume they were going to be lighting him on fire or choking him or smelling like smoke, something that really wouldn't alter his existence at all. Michael trusted the alien to pretend at least.

"You're like me, what can you do?" Alex asked, curiously. "I can make things look scary. Or mess things up. They really don't like when I move things. What do you think will scare the tech guy most?"

Well, Michael could be especially mean to his coworkers. He knew a lot about them.
"Noises with no source," Michael said, still holding the boy as he came back into view for the child but not for the others, "Seeing things that don't make sense, maybe. I can make noises and move things, and I can make people see things."

"I can't make noise," Alex said. "I have to make other things make noise for me. I like controlling the noisy toys or the radios. Sometimes the television. They get upset when I do that." He paused then. "I can make them think they're on fire," He said at last.

"I thought you might be able to do that," Michael said. He wondered if the boy had seen anyone on fire in his short life. Hopefully not. "Alright, are you ready to hide? He won't be scared if he sees us."

"Let's hide," Alex agreed, and made himself only visible to Michael. "Ready?" he asked. He looked to Michael. "Can you do some of your sounds?"

"Sure." Not the sounds of the beheading, though. He didn't want to scare Alexander as well. Instead he set the boy down and stood a decent distance from the others. Toby and Maia were still hanging out with Winser, although Toby was on a computer with the bear in his lap, talking to it like a friend. Dari was in the kitchen, hunched over the counter and lost in thought.
Michael crackled under the fridge.
Dari turned, brow furrowed. "Did you hear that?"
Toby called back over his shoulder: "Hear what?"

Alexander was grinning. Especially since it seemed like Toby and Maia couldn't hear what Dari did. He set the alien on fire. Well. Illusionary fire. It crackled and smoked but did no actual harm.

Dari startled with a soft sound and stood straight. He watched a flaming arm and inspected it. His face was disturbed, but interested. What in the world was Michael doing that the boy was lighting him on fire?
Michael laughed softly and sounded footsteps across the ceiling. The kitchen grew cold.
"Toby?!"
Toby looked back. "WOAH, WOAH!" He rushed over with Winser, noticed that Dari didn't seem to actually be burning, and gently set the bear on the counter and made sure he was alright before pulling Dari by the arm. "What the hell?!"
"I think he's stronger than we thought!"

Maia saw the flames and rushed over, but the panic ebbed once she saw that Dari wasn't actually being burned. She took a breath to steady herself and studied Dari. "Is this like Michael's illusions?" she asked.
Alex was giggling madly. The microwave started counting down from sixty seconds. The facet in The kitchen sink turned on.

"If so, this is a new one!" Toby said. He rushed to the sink and turned the faucet off. The fridge door flew open. All of the cabinets flew open at once with a terrible 'bang!' and Michael laughed with Alex. It was all harmless, but watching them all freak out was pretty amusing, he had to say.
