I was almost gonna make a thread about SOPA to see what everybody thought about it, but I was worried it'd be heated/just plain negative and all that. I mean, what kind of discussion would you expect over something that threatens our way of life here on the internets? 8< I definitely dont want it to go through. The only people who want it to go through are those who think they'd benefit from MOAR MONEYS. The big corporations. (And really, at the end of the day, do they NEED more money?)

Of course not!
Then again, an INFORMATION thread....heck, even an info link, would be helpful in the event that some of us haven't heard of it. And if it gets to negative, delete all and lock the topic like some un-graffiti-able billboard.
Sad thing is...apparently my area's Rep. supports the thing. Honestly, what percentage of Congress actually knows what the internet is and how it works? (Or rather, hires people that DO know and then actually pays attention to them)
scream First the Mickey Mouse law....then this.... :/
Edit/Related: Decided to try making an anti-SOPA avi.....surprisingly, good pants were the hardest part to find. The one with all the books (current as of this writing) is what I came up with......though I'm going to try changing it to a 'pirate' theme...because yeah

Here's my opinion: SOPA can kiss my butt.
That is all. I don't wish to elaborate further.
Anyway, how goes life for everyone? =D

Wow. I just noticed that I can't post my mind without erasing everything and replacing it with my realization that I have a ranting problem.
And now I forgot my rant.

I think the SOPA item is kind of creative and funny. A bar of soap covering your mouth to oppose the censorship of SOPA (two letter difference).
As for SOPA itself, no I do not want to see it pass. The cons far outweigh the pros in this bill. It may be a good idea in theory, but it would devastate more people than it would help. It needs to go back to theory and have all the very apparent issues worked out of it.

Theory? The whole concept is inherently flawed anyway! It's goal is to stop piracy, and it's method is the terrible things that we would experience if it passed.....but as we see with DRM all the time, the pirates manage to circumvent it entirely, and in the end only honest users (and noobish pirates) get burned by the bill.
Using Valve's statement: Piracy isn't a money issue, it's a service issue.
(and just look at how well they're doing in Russia right now)

DO WHAT YOU WANT CAUSE A PIRATE IS FREE
YOU ARE A PIRATEThey should come up with more ingenious ideas of making use of the piracy instead of fighting it. Look at Ken Akamatsu, the author of Mahou Sensei Negima and Love Hina, he supports manga piracy. He's taking pirated manga, putting advertisements on them and then releasing them back into the cyber-wild, so the authors can still profit and you get mass advertising. Did you guys hear what the developers did for Serious Sam? They made it so that anyone who downloads a pirated copy gets chased relentlessly by a giant, red, invincible creepy scorpion.which is PRETTY ******** AWESOME, IF YOU ASK ME. But not so awesome if you actually want to make serious game progress I guess

That is pretty ingenious. You can't enjoy a game when your hunted every second. It would be amazing in dead island if pirated games make all the zombies immortal or something.
As another step along with this, disable the ability to cheat on pirated games. That way you can't do god mode/immortality against this.

That's actually a pretty good idea. If you cant enjoy the game, what's the point in pirating it? =D

Back in the days of yore, there was an anti-piracy system called FADE. Basically, ALL of the game's discs were scratched to 'erase' certain data. At the time, most CD burners were good enough to fix these scratches and get the data back...
...except the data messed with everything in the game. Everything got steadily harder, and the next-to-last boss fight was all but impossible. EVEN IF you somehow managed to beat that boss, the game would suddenly erase all of your game data and display an anti-copying message of some sort.
Awesome idea, but it was so much of a pain that it only ever happened to one game

THAT is crazy! AND frustrating. If every game were like that I bet nobody would ever pirate XD

Hahahahahaa Everyone's so creative. XD Maybe they're just looking for ways to increase their revenue via fines and shiz....
Except if that were the case, they'd tax the s**t out of the drugs that they just legalized... Or something?
