Question Raven. If you don't want to "just be friends", with somebody, then why can't you just tell them? I think it would be better for the other person to know the truth.

It's not exactly that simple. I wouldn't say that I'm entirely resolved to just never talk to them again, so much as I would like to actually discuss what I think are acceptable boundaries, which just is not happening.

Is that they won't accept set boundries, or that it would be difficult to discuss such things with the person?

They don't want to discuss the idea of boundaries and just seem to want to "let things work themselves out," which isn't acceptable to me. Even when we were dating it seemed like my boundaries were being crossed indiscriminately.
