Cale Darksun Dude. They're insectoid mechanical horrors. Isnt that beastly enough? Not really. Your description sounded a lot more plausible for 'insectoid horror.' These just seem.... well..... unfrightening, from this point-of-view. Of course, I'm not doubting their abilities
