Shizuka examined the dying wolf with sad eyes when she heard the crackling of leaves on th forest floor. It's just as she feared. The wolf was a distraction. She looked up at Amaya quickly, explaining the situation through telethapy, and pulled the tonfas out of her pack.
"Manta, you might want to get into the tent now..." Amaya warned.

((seriously, the more the merrier! People shouldn't quit! Read the previous posts and jump in, it's actually turning into something like a very cool fan-novel! mrgreen ))
Manta, sensing the urgency in Amaya's voice, scuttles out of the tent, bumping into Faust. The doctor is hastily cleaning his bloody wrist, leaving several red puncture marks. Manta nudges him. "Hey, um... someone's coming... you should oversoul, shouldn't you?"
"I should..." Faust says slowly. "Manta... can you drive?"
"I have a learner's permit," Manta replies. "Is this really the time or place, Faust?!"
"If something happens, I want you to take Shizuka and go."

"I don't believe that's neccessary." Amaya informed him as Shizuka prepared for an oversoul herself.
"I've been training with her since she was 4 to get ready for this tournament, and even if I wasn't confident with her abilities, Shizuka would probabaly stay and fight anyway. That girl is so stubborn."

"Just don't let her get hurt," Faust says, wincing as he douses his wrist in alchohol. "I'll protect Manta as best I can, but... that wolf was sick as well as injured. Whatever it had is in my bloodstream; brilliant, eh?" he laughs weakly. "I'll pull together as much mana as possible." The rustling leaves are closer and louder. "Maybe we'll get lucky," Faust whispers. "Maybe, if we pretend to be ordinary campers, they'll pass us by..." the tone of his voice is overly hopeful, suggesting that he was trying to convince himself.

"You put the wolf to sleep. I'm sure that whoever is coming already knows that we aren't ordinary campers." Amaya told him. Shizuka tried to give him a reassuring look and instructed something to her spirit ally telepathically again.
"She says that she'll take care of protecting Manta. You need to get whatever disease that was in that wolf out of you."

Faust nods, experimentally flexing his fingers to test his damaged hand's dexterity. "I don't know what this is... I hope it's not too late to do something," he says, swearing under his breath in German as he notices the area around the fang marks turning blue.
"Faust!" Manta cries, stumbling up to them in the dark. "The car... it's gone!"
Faust pales. "Nonsense," he says. "I have the key right here. It was locked and everything."
"It's gone," Manta repeats, frightened tears standing out in his eyes. "We're going to die, aren't we?!"
"NO!" Faust says fiercely. "We don't know anything about this person yet."
"Anyone that could do that to a wolf..." Manta wails, staring at the torn flesh and scorched fur of the dead animal. The crackling sound is almost upon them, it's so close.

Shizuka closed her eyes to try and sence whatever was coming. The trick didn't work, but her hearing was more clear. She could hear whispers. The person obviously knew that they were there. She raised her tonfas to a fighting stance, preparing for whatever was coming.

Faust stares hard at the source of the noise, obviously thinking intently. "Hey!" he calls, just loudly enough so that anyone very near can hear him, "There are children here. If you're any kind of human being, you'll show yourself and stop this ridiculous game! We won't harm you; show yourself."
