Fleeccee woah that sounds ruff. I'm glad i have work in all my classes I try to focus on writing in art history. If i dont write it three or so times (write or type) i wont remember it. I like to laugh about it, actually. I compare him to Charlie Brown's teachers. Just pick out the key words. Wah-wah wah wah-wah-wah, OPEC. Wah wah-wah wah wah Gross National Product...

the modonna is enthroned with angels and prophets

cimabue modonna enthroned 1280 1280, in the style of late byzantine (orginating in byzantium).
this work is in florence.
influence from gothic sculpture, but it has an impulse towards naturalisim. symetrical. Gold background/linear >byzantine influneces
pannel painting.
Ok so modonna enthroned with prophets and angels was made by cenni de pepo, formally known as Cimabue. This work, created in florence, Italy around 1290, summurizes the byzantine style, with a flat gold background and linear composition, and starts to turn towards naturalisim.

we start to see distance.
he learned from nature-in the world of visable things
although this is byzantine style, he restored the naturalistic approch that the ancients had (and had been abadoned while people drew from what they saw not from nature).
a gothic throne

the throne is deep enough to contain the figures.

ok modonna enthroned, Gitton, student of Cimabue, 1310, florence, pannel painting. Byzatine flat background, but instead of looking at other paintings and sculpture for reference, Gitto started to look at nature. The throne is a gothic structure, deep enough to hold the figure of the Modonna, who in this painting is painted with scupltural solidity. For centuries artists looked at other art, Gitto restored the ancients methods, forshadowing the rennessance.
