"But I have more available to me than a normal Gaian day," Shiro quipped with a grin. "Besides, most of the projects are intriguing. It's just once in a while that I get one I can't stand."
He was especially enjoying programming for games - because he got to test them out, something Kaito and Ura loved to help him to do.

Lin chuckled and shook her head, go figure that Shiro would like getting all that work.
"True, as long as you don't over work yourself. Out of everyone I think you take on the most work."
Even Helen kept a limit on what he did and she wasn't sure what Kali did in her spare time.

Shiro chuckled. "Someday I'll take a good long holiday. So far this is one, since I can't really do anything while I'm here except fiddle with my tablet. No projects on the go at the moment."
Maybe he would look up Cindy while they were out here, maybe she could help him a bit. She had studied magic quite a bit, as far as he knew - she even had her own little experiments.

Lin nodded at this thoughtfully, that made sense to her.
Miyuki though was lost more than ever before, she just shook her head and went back to eating. Why did grown ups always tend to talk about things that didn't make any sense?
"So...." Lin murmured as she finished up her breakfast, "What are you planning to do today then? We're snowed in until it lets up at least."

Shiro thought about it for a moment. "Keep fiddling with the tablet, I suppose," he said finally. "On the one hand, I don't want to waste the battery, but on the other hand, the charger is solar powered, so it's not too much trouble to recharge. And there are some things I want to try out."
He smiled at Lin. "You?"

Lin looked thoughtful as she glanced over at Miyuki. Yesterday was all fun, but now it was probably time to buckle down and learn again.
"We still have lessons for today," Lin replied with a small smile, "Languages... maybe now would be a good practical lesson in snow, it didn't really snow that much at Amon Darthir so Miyuki had a bit of trouble understanding why it's considered a mild clime compared to say... here."

"A practical lesson in snow?" Shiro repeated, blinking. "What kind of lesson would that be? I mean, it's a bit cold and deep to be going outside in it ... how could you make a lesson practical?"
She wasn't actually talking about going outside in the storm, was she? Even she couldn't be that crazy ....

Lin chuckled, "It's a good time to talk about how snow is made. We know from growing up in Gaia that there are different types of snow, different conditions that create snow, and as us being snowed in has shown we can get a lot of snow."
It was also a good time to talk about snow patterns and snow crystals, though she wasn't sure how she was going to do that without a microscope but hope Miyuki would understand.
"Miyuki has been in the past five or six years either in the Southland, Amon Darthir and Nauros. Amon Darthir was the only place that had snow and even then it was a very light dusting of it. It's better to talk about it when there's a lot of it and we can look out the window."

"Good point," Shiro smiled. He looked down at the tablet that was sitting on the table, then looked back at Lin. "Need an encyclopedia?" he asked her. "It's got everything you can think of ... well, nearly, there are a few topics that I left out intentionally."
He wouldn't say which ones, though.

Lin looked thoughtful, a encyclopedia was very useful there was only so much she knew about the topic.
"I don't suppose you have anything in there about snowflake formation and patterns? I mean, we take for granted that every snowflake is different but to capture one and magnify to show this is kind of difficult."
She had seen pictures in books, it was very interesting.

"Of course," Shiro replied, reaching for his tablet. He pressed his thumb to one corner of the screen, and very quickly it lit up. He tapped it a few times, then typed a bit, and finally he handed the whole thing over to Lin.
"Here, it's on the entry," he told her. "To scroll just use your finger to drag the screen ... links to images are highlighted. Careful though, I think there's only about three or four more hours of battery life left, I was up kind of late last night."

Lin chuckled a bit and nodded, "It won't be a long lesson, a short one and later maybe I'll think of something to re-enforce it. Miyuki is kind of like me, she needs something to do rather than just sit and listen."
Unless it was a story, stories made everything so much better. Speaking of MIyuki, Lin looked up to see Miyuki was dangling her foot in front of Saki and Senka trying to play with them while remaining in her seat.

Shiro grinned. "Just don't let her break it," he said, not really thinking that she would but warning her just in case. "I need that thing to last me, you have no idea how much it cost me to get it."
The parts had been incredibly expensive - then again, most military stuff was, for the every day person.

"That honestly doesn't surprise me," Lin admittedly wryly, "Don't worry, it'll be back in one piece and working."
She couldn't imagine what Miyuki would do with it anyways, while technology was interesting, she seemed to grow disinterest in it after a while. Probably the result of her inability to sit still for longer periods of time.
Setting the tablet aside for the moment, Lin finished her breakfast first so she could start on Miyuki's lessons.

The snow stopped at the end of the day, and the wind ended overnight, and it was two more days before anyone could leave the house. Still, the weather had warmed considerably, and the snow was melting quite quickly, considering how fast it had accumulated.
The days passed, visits were made, and the countdown to the Old Year and New Year celebrations quickly grew shorter. Everyone was getting excited about it, and preparations were worked on every single day.
