Items are often rewarded as drops from events and things like that. Alternatively, you can use Gaia Gold to bribe Arena for one, but that's not really necessary... weapons are more like useful mid-level additions, and your main powers are way more important.

Buying any item here isn't necessary, really. Just have your character carry around a basic axe as a weapon for now... y'know, when it would make sense for them to carry it. Most people aren't allowed to carry weapons openly.
