I got Sam with the Titan, and I'm doing a tactical sacrifice strategy.
Start off with no food, all ammo. Fast pace, meager rations. Purposely let 3 of your crew die. After that, hunt, rest, etc. Keep yourself and that other crew member alive. Apparently there's an unavoidable random encounter that kills a crew member, which is why you need the 1 alive.
I took both shortcuts, my crew member died in an unavoidable encounter, I've got 173 ammo left, 302 food, and I'm in the clouds. Unless some major s**t goes down, I've got this made.
EDIT: Nevermind. Major s**t DID happen. I got a random event where I suspect someone on crew ( myself, as the only one left ) is a zombie. I can either smother them at night, or let them live. Naturally, I have to pick let them live, but then it gives me the death message and I get a game over. WTF!? scream

My first journey with Edmund and the average ship failed halfway to Mount Boom after taking the desert.
Now I've taken the Kestrel with Diedrich as a guide, fill up to max food and 150 ammo. Taking the long way through the forest and am currently halfway to Mount Boom in about 20 minutes. Fast Pace, Filling Rations, full luck. Havent dropped below 480 Rations or 100 ammo yet. Doing much better. Currently at 48 days.
Last leg of the journey, I reduce rations and speed back to average, but for some reason, major s**t happens and I lose nearly all food and ammo(My luck is still one step down from max...), everyone dies but myself, and then suddenly Im blessed by free food and ammo, and make it. That was testy...
Final score 1035 and the Wind Medal.

Cute may not be the best way to describe anything of Fett's but that backpack really is. It made my crummy day marginally better, which adorable things usually do.

I managed to beat it with Sam. I ended up using the Kestler, because I figured faster time would mean less random encounters. I had 300 ammo and no food to start, but the 1st thing I did was hunt to solve that problem.
I kept it at a fast pace and meager rations. I hunted and rested when needed. 2 of the crew died in unavoidable situations, but I tried to keep all of 'em alive as much as possible. I took both shortcuts, and had just under 50 ammo and 3 crew left at the end.

Firinn Cute may not be the best way to describe anything of Fett's but that backpack really is. It made my crummy day marginally better, which adorable things usually do. Well, at least I did something good for the day. Now my bad kharma can begin again. XD
