Dari laughed slightly. He knew that sound.
"You're son's gone off to cry, I think," he said to the air, watching the flowers, "Thank you for responding. He seems lonely. I think have you here will help him."

A single flower appeared where the first greeting had been. Its glow was dim; maybe regretful? Then another flower bloomed beside the first. It seemed the guardians knew of Dari's friendship with their son.

"Don't feel bad. He's still young. I'm sure he'll love coming to talk to you. Is there anything you'd like me to know before I head back to camp?" He might as well offer, even if it was going to come as a puzzle in the form of flowers.

For a while, there was no response. No flowers, no glowing. But then, tiny wisps of the energy that had formed the flowers brushed past Dari. A voice, distant and very nearly inaudible, was thanking him. A woman's voice. The flowers stopped, and instead a sapling began to sprout from the ground.

Dari closed his eyes and smiled. Now that, that was amazing. For a moment he felt so connected to this earth on which he had landed. When he opened his eyes he reached out and touched the tiny sapling.
"It's no problem. We do what we can." His voice was soft and reverent.

It wasn't hard to find Reese, what with the extended hearing range Dari had. Rather than offer a hug he tucked his hands into his pockets and looked down at the guardian. It was a move he'd learned from Toby. Don't offer the hug. it might offend. If they want it, they'll come to you.
"Hey, are you alright?"

Reese wiped at his eyes and looked up. "Yeah," he said, and took a breath. He stood up and looked around, as if making sure no one was watching. He hugged Dari tightly.

Dari smiled and pulled his hands from his pockets. He returned the hug tightly and stroked Reese's back.
"I'm glad they're here for you," he said softly, "I'm glad you don't have to be alone."

Reese nodded. He seemed to struggle for words. Finally, he let go of Dari and looked awkward, scraping the toe of his shoe in a line. "Don't tell anyone about this mushy stuff," he warned.

"Never," Dari said, just like he'd never tell anyone about the experience he had just had. "Do you want to keep walking? We could just walk and talk, if you'd like."

Reese smiled then. He seemed to trust Dari would keep his secret. "Alright, we can walk and talk," he agreed. "What do you want to talk about?"

Reese was getting irritable. The agents had gone off to talk to the developers and hadn't been back to update him yet. He was blipping between two trees, back and forth. He paced one length of a branch.

It had been a relatively uneventful confrontation. The head contractor had insisted they had permits, which Toby didn't disagree with, but it had gone so far as to calling the owner of the development. Nothing could be finished yet. He had to talk to that man, who would be in in four days (or so he said). Toby headed back around and came from the public side where he parked the car. He was striding with purpose and looked slightly irritated. Dari, behind him, looked barely concerned. He had been in the car during the confrontation and simply listened. Lori looked miffed, but he'd been standing guard again with his hair pulled back.
All three immediately headed for the tent.

Reese phased into the tent, studying the three of them. "How'd it go?" he asked. "The nymph keeps looking for you," he added, frowning at Toby. "Maia's trying to calm her down, but it won't be long before she gets upset again--"
"POPPY? Poppy!" The toddler was indeed calling for Toby. She hadn't been impressed by the apps on Maia's cellphone.
