Toby help the nymph with one arm and zipped the tent back up with the other. His heart rate was slowing. The adrenaline was washing away.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Toby reassured her, giving her a kiss on the cheek in return. "Someone came to sleep with us." He back up toward the air mattress and laid the child down, then crawled under the thick blanket to join her.

"I heard," Maia said, and smiled at the nymph. "Hi sweetie," she greeted the toddler and smiled. She looked at Toby and nodded. "Goodnight love," she said, and scooted towards her sleeping bag.
The nymph yawned and nestled in the blanket. "Luh puppy!"

"Goodnight, Love. I'll see you in the morning," Toby said. He smiled and tucked under the blanket. It might have been a little weird for an adult man to be sleeping with a child he'd just met, but everyone knew how attached Toby got to entities, and now the baby fever was strong in him.
"I love you too, sweetie," he said with a chuckle and put his head down to try and sleep.
Dari smiled softly and crawled into his own bed to resume hallucinating until Reese came to find him, if he did at all.

It was a little over two hours that Reese showed up. He phased right into the tent, looking frantic. He wrung his hands. "Hey! Agents! My nymph is missing! Did you take her?" He frowned. "I can't find her! I looked everywhere, and the developers don't have her, I checked!"

Toby woke suddenly with a sharp inhalation.
"Reese! Reese. She came to visit." He pointed down at the nymph as she lay in bed.
Lori groaned and pulled his pillow over his head. Dari sat up.
"She's fine, Reese. She wanted to sleep in here tonight," Dari said.

Maia sat up, definitely unhappy about being woken a second time. She left the room and looked to glare at the guardian.
Reese frowned. He looked at Toby suspiciously before crossing his arms. "You could've told me she was here!" he accused.
Somehow, the nymph remained asleep.

Toby furrowed his brow and put his finger to his lips. Let her sleep!
"I didn't know she was on-watch! Next time check with us first. She found us all by herself."

Reese frowned in concern and looked to the sleeping nymph. He lowered his voice. "I just didn't want the developers getting her. When I realized she was out of her tree..." He'd panicked. He'd blipped all over the forest looking for her. "I'm glad you kept her safe."

"I understand," Toby said with a nod. "Even young nymphs tend to have enough sense to not wander into human territory." He smiled then. "Of course we're keeping her safe. It's our job."
Dari smiled to Reese. "We're sorry for the worry."

Reese nodded at Toby, then offered Dari his hand. "Hey," he said. "You don't need to sleep. Want to come walk with me? There's no birds and most of the animals are sleeping, but it's still pretty."
Maia grumbled and moved into Toby and Dari's room.

Dari nodded. "Sure. I was just waiting for you." He offered the guardian a smile and took his hand.
Toby saw Maia stealing Dari's mattress. He winked at her and settled back in with his sleeping nymph.

Reese took Dari's hand and led him out of the tent. He bent down carefully and unzipped the zipper. "It's peaceful this time of night. And now that I know the nymph's safe, I don't have to look for her."
Maia flopped down on the mattress. She looked at Toby and gave him a sleepy smile. This was much better.

Dari nodded and followed. "What is there to see this time of night?"
"Good night, Love," Toby murmured to Maia.

"Come see," the guardian's response was vague as he led Dari through the forest. After a bit of a walk, they came to a clearing. Reese sat down on the grass. "Be really quiet," he advised.
"Goodnight Toby," Maia muttered. Hopefully there wouldn't be any further interruption!

Dari crouched with him and not only went silent, but ceased breathing. He had recently learned that that was only a part of the illusion as well.
