"Awww." So cute.Toby handed the baby over with one last kiss and wrapped an arm around Maia. "I think she got jealous."
"I never get lost!" Dari reassured her. Lori emerged shortly after him and nodded a greeting to Reese.

Maia smiled. "I think she did," she said. She leaned up and kissed his cheek. "There's a first time for everything," she added, looking to Dari.
"You guys should get some rest," Reese advised. "Nasty developers tomorrow."

"It's not all that late yet. I think we'll check in with HQ and make sure everything's working right. Thanks for the tour!" Toby said.
Dari smiled and waved a hand at Maia. Goofy.

"Okay, bye!" Reese smiled and phased away with the nymph.
"Well, he's lively," Maia smiled as Reese left and looked towards their tent. "Let's check in, then?"

"Yeah, let's do that," Toby agreed. The tent had three rooms, and could be modified to hold more, but not less. Toby made it to the machine first and dialed up HQ. All of their head agents were here. Who was going to be in charge in their stead?

Toby was trying to sleep, but without Maia by his side it was rough. Hell, it might have been worse if she was. It all felt the same. He knew the sounds a tent made, felt the air blowing by, was deeply aware of the crisp air of a nighttime forest. He sighed and rubbed his face. God damnit. He was in the center with Dari while Lori and Maia slept to the left in a separate room.

There was a definite rustle of movement from just outside the tent. Then the unmistakable sound of a body against the material of it. The sounds continued.
Then a new one. Something was trying to get in. A shadow loomed over the tent.

Toby's blood went cold. He froze for a moment. His respiration kicked up and he immediately lunged for the zipper. He'd confront whatever it was before it came in and destroyed everything. Where was Reese when you needed him? He was panting, high on adrenaline already when he unzipped the tent.

The attacker was a little under two feet tall. It was the baby nymph. She'd come to find Toby. When she recognized him, she raised her arms in request to be picked up. "Poppy! Poppy!" ...Why was poppy scared? His breathing was fast! Maybe he was sad. Yes, that must have been it. He'd been sad because she'd gone away.
"Poppy, I here!"

Toby heard the nymph's voice and panicked. Was it after her? Did he have to protect her too? It took his logic a moment to realize that "it" was her. This was her forest too. She was free to wander where she pleased. He let out a great sigh and fell to his weakened knees and grinned to the toddler.
"Hi, honey! You found me!" He wrapped his arms around her in a hug. Thank god.

The nymph wrapped her arms around Toby's neck and leaned back, studying his expression. "Poppy sad?" she asked. Poppy couldn't be sad now, she was here to make him happy! Oh, there! He was smiling after all! She released her hold on him, only for her fingers to explore his face. They went over his stubble, and she paused. "Poppy bumpy."

"Yes, yes. Poppy bumpy," Toby agreed. He gave a laugh of great relief and stroked the child's hair. "Do you want to come in the tent?"
Dari was peering out of the tent flap, watching the exchange. Well then.

"Sleep with Poppy?" the nymph asked. She snuggled against him, then seemed to spot Dari. "Riri!" She pointed at the alien.
Maia stirred, sitting up but not moving from her spot. "Toby. Your friend's found us," she muttered, yawning.

"You can, if you want to," Toby said with a nod. He turned to come into the tent and then held his hands out to help the toddler over the lip, should she need it.
Dari smiled and waved. "Hello! Shhhh," he said, putting a finger to his lips, "People are sleeping."
Lori thought, no, we are most assuredly not, but he was smiling when he rolled over into a more comfortable position to try again.

The nymph nodded and took Toby's hands, carefully stepping over the lip of the tent. She yawned and wrapped her arms around the werewolf.
Maia rubbed at her eyes. She crawled over to Toby and kissed his cheek. "Are you okay, love?" she asked.
