((Welcome!! I think... I don't run this rpg... sweatdrop ))
Shizuka gave a slight smile. She assumed that the whole bag couldn't possibly be first aid materials unless he actually brought equipment from a hospital. Not to mention that the mood was lightening now. The cold separation and pain seemed to be gone, and if they were stillon the road, they'd be likely to be going well over the speed limit now.

The mood is most certainly lighter, even if the weather is atrocious. Manta, struggling to carry the monstrous first-aid kit, heaves it onto the ground, and Faust winces as there's a sound of glass shattering. "Sorry," Manta says quietly.
"No problem... I don't think we'll really need the moniter, anyway..." Faust sighs, testing the sturdiness of the stakes that Shizuka placed for the tent. "You really did a good job, Shizuka..."
In answer to Faust's mild answer to the broken equipment, Manta drapes a blanket over the doctor's skinny shoulders. "So... the tent's divided into two parts, right? There's a seperator that zips up the center. Shizuka and I can share one side, and if you want you can take the other. You don't mind, right, Shizuka?" Manta asks, looking slightly embarassed.
((sorry about the ridiculously long update... I'm living up north now, and we don't have internet! gonk I'm at the library; I'll make an effort to get on at least once a day.))

Shizuka nodded cautiously, her cheeks burning red. She's never slept in an area like that with a guy, but she convinced herself that it would be fine.

"Manta is a gentleman," Faust says, glancing swiftly at the blushing Shizuka. "I don't think you'd have anything to worry about."
"Right," Manta agrees, also blushing. "Say, I wonder how the others are doing... we probably should have at least invited Horo, Faust. Let me give them a call..." he slaps his forehead. "My backpack! I totally forgot! Dang... Faust, can I borrow your cell?"
Faust stares warily at Manta. "...Cell? Manta, there's no way I can give you just one... they're very small, you see..."
"No... no, Faust, cell PHONE. You don't have one, do you?" He turns towards Shizuka, as though really hoping she has one.

Shizuka looked up at Amaya, telling her something telepathically. (she also had the sweatdrop ) "You need parental consent to be able to get a decent cell phone where Shizuka and I are from..."

"Oh... crap! Now we have no way of contacting them!" Manta buries his face in his hands, wigging out.
"Hey, it's OK!" Faust says. The whole evening, he's been like an Easter egg: bright and cheerful on the outside, but ready to crack at any moment. "People have gotten by for years without portable phones. At least the rain is letting up..." he says, peering up at the sky. "Who wants to roast liverwurst?"
"I brought hot dogs," Manta says quickly. "And more marshmallows. Care for some, Faust?"
"Nein, danke... I brought my own food." Faust holds up a half-eaten bag of saltine crackers. "I don't actually have any liverwurst... just couldn't think of the word 'hot dog'. Pretty strange name you have for them," he comments, kneeling to start a fire on the dry logs he'd procured.

Shizuka just sat on a somewhat dry log and looked up at the sky. She knew that stars would soon dot the opaquecovering of the earth. There would be virtually countless, unless someone around the area just had a bad hobby. She tried to find her zodiac sign before at a place like this, but all the stars made it nearly impossible to find a single constellation. But through it all, it was somewhat... comforting.

Faust also looks up at the stars. A meteor streaks by, it's long tail flaring brilliantly for a blazing instant. Manta gasps. "Hey, did you see.."
"Yes," Faust answers, smiling as he strikes the flint. "It's actually turned out to be a very clear night, hasn't it?" He gets a modest flame going, blowing gently on the little fiery tongues to encourage a healthier bonfire.
Manta opens the new bag of marshmallows, spearing one eagerly on the end of a long stick. Snatching the stick from him, Faust shakes his head solemnly. "Does a bear...?" he asks, raising an eyebrow as he sterilizes the end of the stick by turning it slowly in the fire.
Manta bites the inside of his cheek. "Yeah, he does... you're right, it's unsanitary."
Faust shivers suddenly; a moment later, there's the sound of a wolf howling in the distance, chilling and lonely. Drawing the blanket closer around himself, he says, "Another thing to remind me of home..."

Shizuka looked off in the direction of the wo;f's cry, not in fear, but in curiosity. She expected a second cry to follow, a response between two wolves, but the night was silent besides the chirping of the cicadias. That's when it hit her. The cry wasn't one of communication, but one of pain. The area was almost uninhabited by people, so either someone was hunting, or someone was after them, the wolf just an innocent creature destroyed in the process. That's when terror settled into her eyes.

Faust bites his lip tensely, and quickly brings his fingers to his mouth. He's actually managed to draw blood without meaning to. "We're going to keep the fire going all night," he decides. "Um... maybe we should be thinking about turning in, soon. I'll stay up and keep watch," he offers, peering anxiously into the tangled bracken.

Shizuka nodded, grabbed Manta's wrist, and almost dragged him to the tent. Her breath was a little heavier with anticipation and fear.

"Do you think someone's out here, Shizuka?" Manta whispers.
Faust has Eliza's skeleton at the ready, but is waiting to oversoul. He paces restlessly around the fire, stopping every several moments to listen. The injured wolf's howl comes again, closer, and Manta stiffens next to Shizuka.

Shizuka nodded her head stiffly in response to Manta's question. Her eyes were soon closed in order to hear the movements around the wooded area. She could hear some small petty sounds along with the wolf's repeating injured cry coming closer. Something, or worse in this case, someone was following it to the three.

Staggering into the campground is a wild wolf, its dark fur in clumps and patches as if scorched. An ugly gash slices its belly open, and there is a sharp intake of breath from Faust. Approaching it cautiously, he slowly reaches into his pocket and withdraws a syringe.
The wolf snarls, limping backwards pitifully on cut feet. Faust speaks as if every word causes him pain. "You're a mess, aren't you...? Poor dog, poor boy.... I'm not a doctor for animals, but I don't think even a vet could help you..." He reaches a hand out, his fingers trembling in the firelight. He gently touches the wound, exploring it, trying to probe out some sort of remedy, but the wolf recoils, clamping its jaws on Faust's wrist.
"Sorry.... I'm sorry," Faust says quietly. "There's not a thing I can do..." moving very, very slowly to keep the wolf from actually severing his hand, he bites the tip off the syringe and inserts it swiftly between the wolf's shoulder blades. The wolf twists and snarls, releasing Faust's wrist and writhing on the ground, its teeth stained red. After a few moments, its breathing slows and it lays still, the lethal injection stopping its heart.
