 Gwynn assisted his mentor, legendary Ted Williams, in throwin' out 1st pitch in 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park. Gwynn credited Williams with teachin' him how to hit for more power in latter part of his career.

Gwynn's 8 NL battin' crowns tie him with Honus Wagner for league record. Ty Cobb owns major-league mark with 11, all in AL.

Durin' his final season in 2001, Gwynn batted .324 but managed to take only 102 at-bats.

i met both Tony Gwynn and Cal Ripken, Jr. and got their autographs. after I wrote to Gwynn and he wrote back, i noticed that he was coming to our city. i went to Nike Town, where he was signing autographs, and i showed him the letter, and he laughed and joked, "Did i write that?" he then signed a picture and a baseball card for me. as for Cal, i wrote to him and he wrote back (ok, so i didn't really meet him...) and he signed the letter and gave me an autographed postcard. both of these Hall of Famers are great guys who played the game the way it should be played.
