Lauren smiled, "You're welcome... I geuss." Well at least Alexa wasn't running away or yelling in anger towards Lauren right now which is what usually happens. Lauren wasn't used to people being this passive about things. A part of her felt really bad about what Alexa was going through right now, she didn't envy her.
"So... what was your life like back there?" She asked trying to make some small talk.

Alexa's brain was a jumbled mess even if she came across as being completely focussed and down to earth. Of course, part of her art was to disguise her inner feelings from everyone. It was something she was actually proud of, more or less. She nearly missed the question Lauren asked as her brain was trying to sort through new information and formulate new plans and choices.
"Oh," she started, as if she was coming back into focus. "It was nice. I had a nice place and a sort of older sister to look out for me. Had everything I wanted..." She trailed off. Her speech was confident but her brain kept wandering back to the soft spot that was Maryke. It was long ago, far away, and definitely over for the lemur woman. Well, not definitely, but Alexa was certain it would never have a chance to come into fruition. It didn't matter now. Past was past, she'd have to forget about it just as she'd have to forget about the outside world. She wasn't a part of it anymore, it shouldn't be a part of her.

She was being very vague, and Lauren was smart enough to realize it. Still Lauren let it slide. It didn't really matter anyway, it was gone. "Oh, well all gone now. Sorry, but you still have a nice place and everything you want. Just your older sister aint here." Or at least that was the assumption Lauren had made. "I... let's just say I wasn't so lucky back then but hell I've got it made now!"

There was a glimmer of recognition in Alexa's eye at the mention of the older sister. She didn't think Lauren would catch it, since it was breif and probably hard to detect even to those who knew her well. "It's nice that they take care of us so well." She said, rather impersonally. She considered telling Lauren that Maryke was that person, and they were both going to hell in a handbasket now, but she bit her tongue on the subject. Something made her want to keep it a secret.
However, it didn't mean she couldn't ask. "Do you know anything of a Mr. Woodrow and his relationship to Maryke?" She was curious to see if the insider information could get her somewhere in this sticky situation. Finding someone close to the inside was lucky for her. Maybe she'd uncover some secret which made Alexa's presence on the island so crucial.

Alexa, wasn't so lucky when asking Lauren. She happened to have heard of Billy a few times, he was infamous, but only once attached to the last name Woodrow. She had also, never met Maryke, "Woodrow... sounds familiar but I've never heard of Maryke." She replied shaking her head and then giveing Alexa a rather puzzled look. "Why do you want to know?" She couldn't have had many friends on the island, being there for less than a couple of weeks. "Friends of yours?"

"You might say that." She said with a bite of bitterness. "I think he's some sort of sea creature, I just don't have a first name or a residence." Of course her reasons for knowing these things would not be revealed. She was slowly shifting from being caught off guard to being at the top of the game again, just fishing for more pieces to the puzzle. She watched her, hopefully, that more information might spark a memory or some sort of other trigger. Anything would do.

"Did you look at the duplex listings?" Lauren asked "That might help you find what you are looking for." How could a friend only know the last name of someone. "You're not friends with this Woodrow are you? You don't even know him... So why do you wanna know where he lives?" Alexa had peaked Lauren's curiousity now. Running from the FBI, living in comfortable places and trying to find people she only knew the last name of...
"Are you in the Mafia or something?" Lauren asked suddenly. Not that she cared it just seemed to fit. "You don't seem like a gangster."

"Oh..." She didn't remember there were duplex listings. She'd have to check those. "No, not the Mafia, I just have a question to ask him." Awkward. "I should get going. I've got people to meet..." A blatant lie, but the best she could do. "Thanks for the chat!" And with that, she scurried off towards the beach, eager to get away from the people she just kept happening to discover.

"Oh... alright goodluck then." She said as the girl went trailing off.
She suddenly seemed quick to get away from Lauren, right after she mentioned the mafia thing. Maybe she was and didn't want anyone to know? Well regardless if she did or not someone was going to find out here and it really wouldn't matter one way or the other. Lauren shrugged the whole thing off and continued towards her filming for the day.

New Rp
The sun assaulted her with her thoughts as she left Lucas' duplex. They continued the onslaught as she continued on through the village proper, her long internal monologue, as per the usual, ever present... and unapologetic. Were Emelyn White ever to have peered into the mind of anyone other tahn herself, she very well would have been shocked into something that was wholly uncharacteristic of her- silence- for she couldn't have imagined how... brief some people's thoughts could be.
She wished she could have done more for Lucas, and it was the possibilities of future encounters with the dhole man that was her particular brainfood that day. Her surroundings, though present to her in the form of her squinted eyes against the sun and the dirt shuffling into the fur on her feet- were otherwise ignored.

It was rare for the cobra to visit the village any longer than it required to hurry past to his duplex, especially given his recent meeting with Jordan, but today was a special occasion. It had taken a lengthy search near the mountain for Thom to remember that Emelyn was back in the village, then a quick visit to the cafeteria to learn her duplex number before heading out in search of the hedgehog woman. The area, thankfully, was empty of guards--at least, for the present. It remain empty for enough time for him to find Emelyn without risk, if the smells on the air weren't lying to him.
He had come to a decision, and he meant to act on it before common sense kicked in and changed his mind.
His trip to the cafeteria proved useless when, nearing the duplexes, he caught sight of the hedgehog woman up ahead. Thom sped up as much as his tail allowed--it wasn't easy, running without legs--and hurried after Emelyn, lifting a hand as he called out to catch her attention. "Oi, Em! Wait for me!"

One of the first friends that Emelyn had made on Hell Island had been Cassidy- a sweet, humble woman who had then transformed into one of the most unholy-appearing of creatures- a massive serpent, unrecognizable from the caring housekeeper she'd once been. She was dear friends with the woman- even if they'd not seen each other in a long while- but Emelyn would be lying if she could say that the sight of her was familiar and comforting.
She would be lying even more so if she suggested that of a snake she didn't know and care for as well, barreling towards her in the village proper didn't startle her.
She gasped and stepped back- a human reaction, for the hedgehog aspect of her nature, though it was on guard, was not entirely alarmed. It took several moments of this slack-jawed surprise for her to realize who it was, and she took a deep breath to steady herself.
"I'm sorry Thom," she said, stopping to give him a chance to catch up with her. "I didn't recognize you at first."

One benefit to being the giant snake was that he never had to look at the giant snake, provided he could skillfully avoid mirrors, puddles, spoons, and anything else remotely reflective. However, on the down side, Thom often forgot the effect his appearance could have on those who didn't know or recognize him--and, in many cases, those who did know him as well. In the time since his change, he had all but forgotten that his legs were gone, that his body was several feet longer, and could even pass off such things as the twitching tongue and unlidded eyes. He had adapted. The only time he remembered what a monster he had become was when someone was so kind as to remind him.
The expression on Emelyn's face was enough to make him slow his pace considerably as he neared, finally pausing altogether a few feet away from the hedgehog. However, with the apology he moved forward once more to glide along at her side, sweeping a hand in a gesture for her to continue the walk. "My fault, I'd forgotten I've changed since we last spoke. I'm sorry I startled you. 'Ow've you been?"

Emelyn made the conscious decision to lend herself over to a greater part of her hedgehog nature, realizing that there was still a twinge of her that wasn't wholly comfortable around the great serpent. The hedgehog, after appraising the great beast and concluding that, besides not being overly hungry, the long winding thing didn't look especially edible, and it wasn't a large threat, regardless. After that, the dualistic creature known as Emelyn was calmed considerably, and she was able to answer with more ease.
"It's alright. You couldn't much help it. Sorry for the reaction. ...I've been well. How about you? You look a little... peaked." It was the best way she could think of to kindly describe the sort of excited, seemingly fully aware look that crossed his snake-like features. Or perhaps it was just the change in his eyes that had her seeing that, interpreting it that way.

"No worries," he assured her, managing a grin. "It's not the first time I've gotten it, nor will it be the last, I'm sure." Except, in most cases, Thom enjoyed the hold his appearance gave him over the other islanders. Being a giant serpent was exceptionally useful intimiating those people who he was less than fond of. At the same time, unfortunately, it wasn't uncommon to provoke jumps from those he would much rather be on good terms with, such as Oz and Emelyn and, quite often, Natsumi.
"Peaked is close enough," the snake agreed, though his smile faded somewhat as he returned his eyes forward. "A lot's 'appened in the time since th' change, an' a lot more's bound to 'appen before all's said an' done. I stole a laptop," he offered suddenly, grin returning. "From another islander, though it's clearly from the labs. 'Aven't been able to see what's in it yet, unfortunately."
