Infected

いただきます~?

Maybe Robert was right, she needed to be knocked out for the vaccine. The choke was harsh and she struck to break through. Shu's body was quivering, storing the energy granted by the zombie status as Robert was yelling at his wife in anger.

Then - everything just took just a few seconds.

She swung the constraint free and Robert fell onto the ground and the girl threw herself on him -

And just as Nellie was about to abandon all hope of ever locating both Zascha and Harlow, the lights suddenly came back on just in the nick of time for her to see a rather pale and almost frenzied Zascha running towards her. Did something happen? Wasn't he with Harlow awhile ago?

There wasn't any time at all for her to look around to see if she could locate the other missing Mist trainee. The instant Zascha got a little too close for comfort, she instinctively stepped back to try to trip him up a little while putting some distance between them at the same time. "What happened Zascha and where's Harlow?" She questioned, still blissfully oblivious to the fact that he was injured and not behaving like his normal self at this point in time.

"We ARE PARTNERS." Robert roared out, but his voice had lost that lilt of rage, and took on a tired, cracked desperation. "That's why you gotta TRUST ME-"

But she didn't. She did not trust his judgement, and she didn't trust him to take care of Shu, because that was only her job. Only hers.

His hands relaxed, as Jezebel desummoned and Shu was left with barely a shred of life in her, to fall to the ground. He felt the scissors - buried so deeply in his shield that it was impossible to tell the difference between that, and being in his stomach. He felt them more strongly than the sink of Shu's teeth into his arm, the tearing of actual flesh as she bit into him, the sudden flow of poison into his veins, filling him with an endless, absolute hunger.

He didn't care that he was starting to lose his mind. He didn't want to think about that blade in his stomach anymore.

Or ever again.

His red eyes tinted with a nasty, putrid green, before he snapped his head up at Mimsy and lunged, wordless, at her neck.

It did not occur to Mimsy that sustained damage to his FEAR shield was decidedly terrible in these circumstances, though it seemed that few reasonable ideas were occurring to her in general. She stood her ground just long enough to fail to protect the man she had accused of losing interest in being her partner, and was too weak to make any admission of wrongdoing before it no longer mattered.

Svensyl fell silent. Her gaze fell to her feet, because she knew precisely why.

Time, remaining a stubbornly linear construct, refused to stand still for her. As she found herself in dire need to more time to think again, to establish what did matter (if anything), to take this as slowly and cautiously as she feasibly could, Robert had been quick to react once more.

The scissors were placed gingerly in her pocket, movements carrying the slightest hint of resignation, and her fingers rose to pass over her neck where she had just been bitten.

And those were the last of the slow, passive motions, as the requirement to have a reasonable dialogue to determine a plan was suddenly not much of a requirement anymore. Without a word, she set to work, treating this with the kind of meticulous dedication to strive towards perfection that she put into all of her work.

Her left hand snatched up one end of Robert's scarf, and she wrapped it around her forearm until it was functionally similar to a leash, albeit an especially short one. Her right reached to hold the back of Shu's coat near the collar, thin fingers firmly grasping the handful of thick cloth. Confident with her methods, she used all of her remaining strength to encourage them to continue facing forward, looking away from her.

A deep breath that began with conviction was released with a shaking exhale. She pressed her face into Robert's arm, and the incorporeal crown stayed stubbornly in place as she rubbed her cheek against the coarse fabric there.

When Rep found himself in the darkness he had made no motion to grab a flashlight, he had summoned his weapon and waited, because to him it was never completely dark. His artifacts glowed fierce in the gloom. Somewhere in the chaos cries had gone up that there were hunters from their group infected, cries of fear and pain.

Of course there ******** was.

He'd known everything would go to s**t, it always ******** did. He would just do his ******** job, the way he always did, if someone was infected, they were going down, he didn't care who they were (except Harrison, Harrison he would protect no matter what he was, if he was a zombie, they were both zombies)

When the lights came back on, he could finally deal with the mess without risking smashing anyone's headi n.

"Better ******** LOOK OUT." he snarled as he brought the enormous form of Tracey down on the milling green eyed creatures closest to him, the crash and crunch as he hit the floor always satisfying.

When the lights went out, Lawrence stayed close to Sasha, but he made no move at all to aid anyone else. Calm, patient staying off of the zombie's radar was on the agenda. He was nothing if not a survivor, and saw no reason to flail and make a racket the way the others appeared to be doing.

As the light returned, his eyes adjusted once more and he raised a brow.

"Such wonderful organization, as always."

He made no move to help anyone.

Lucky had been preoccupied during the majority of the strife going on only feet away. But with the lights on again and the severe beatdown that had been dealt to the zombie formerly known as Finn, it gave him just enough of an opportunity to fully disengage the ex-hunter (tossing him largely in the direction of his new attackers and Chel) and scramble for safety.

Or what he thought was safety, but was in fact more of the same.

Still on edge, he took it all in, eyes darting from person to person while he grit his teeth. Robert looked... different. And he didn't even know who the girl was. But Mimsy had bought herself all of about one second attempting to keep two fully grown humans from throwing themselves at her with all their strength. He was free to stand aside and letting her suffer the consequences of her own poor decision, but some part of him cared too much. Maybe if his resolve had been weaker, his cowardice more powerful, then he could have stood by and done nothing and told himself it was the right thing to do.

Instead, he decisively clocked the squirming hunter girl over the head... with his flashlight.

He hadn't pulled away from her neck, but she'd turned him away, and he swayed in confusion, unable to process what had just happened. For a split second, he actually forgot there was a human behind him, until she grabbed his scarf, and wrapped it around her arm. The tug had him turning again, in a constant attempt to get back to her, to bend himself back down to her neck and eat, eat it all, until there was nothing left.

It was difficult to move with her holding onto his scarf, but he tried, and tried, and tried. Eventually, he stopped long enough to take in a deep, staggering breath.

He could smell her.

His mouth opened wide, and while it was open, he exhaled a long, bubbling breath. Then his teeth snapped shut in her direction, and he growled under his breath.

"Eat."

The sound of Lucky finishing off Shu made his head snap in that direction, but Mimsy's leash kept Robert from going after him, too. He started to breath in violently fast inhales, his body shuddering with the need to consume. He leaned towards Lucky, choking by the leash.

One shot had been enough. Peyton fell quiet as Noah crouched beside her, remembering his fear of the dark. The hand on his arm tightened reassuringly, but she could feel his pulse going nuts.

The lights coming back on were a mixed blessing. They could more see, but what was reveled was quite literally the stuff of nightmares. The infected had escaped, attacking hunters left and right, and they were in turn infected themselves and further added the chaos. America's want to have the wall at their backs now seemed more than just smart, and the Sun started moving back, nudging Noah with her until she had reached the other duo.

Warrick's red runes cast a dull glow as she summoned him, and instead off rising into the fray she lingered with her group. When a zombie shuffled too close she slashed at it, forcing it back and away.

Where did he go.

One moment Heidi had been holding Tuck's hand, the next it was gone. Just. Gone. Where did he go. Where was he? She heard her name called but from where? She couldn't see. Somehow, perhaps sheer luck, she had managed to avoid all of the chaos around her. Her flashlight had died when she tried turning it on, and Matilda's glow wasn't bright enough to light a path like a flashlight would. She could only see what the flashlights around her revealed and none of it was good.

The lights were back.

"...Tuck?" Wide green eyes looked all around. "T..Tuck?" Where did he go? How did she lose him? Why did he let go of her hand? "TUCK!" She called out one more time, still not seeing him.

Matilda was summoned immediately and held tightly in her hand. She raised her weapon, drawing back the string to create one of Matilda's glowing white arrows. One of the incoming prisoners noticed her, lunging toward her just in time to take an arrow to the face. It screeched, lunging blindly again to scratch at the girl. Heidi winced and jumped back again, drawing another arrow and backing away.

Since lucky hit mercilessly with his flashlight, Shu received a serious impact and was instantly knocked out, mumbling about names of desserts before everything black out.

Pocketing the flashlight, America gazed around at people who were her friends and coworkers, with their eerie colored eyes and mindless, dangerous action, and very carefully set aside her own feelings for later. They could wait. She had work to do.

Summoning Stryker, she began to clear a small path for Peyton to dive into.

The light had gone out while he'd been trying hustle his friends out of the room with their 'patient' after the last chain was secured and he had, like an idiot, frozen in place. This really was starting to turn into something like one of the zombie survival horror games and when the lights disappeared was usually right before something started chewing on your face.

Reaching up carefully he pulled the spike out of his hair and summoned Vi, the chains clinking as she appeared.

He couldn't hear anything else though, not at first, but as his panic started to recede he started to hear voices. The voices quickly turned to panic and scrambling around him as he tried to stay stock still. It didn't work and he was bumped into, tripped, and thumped into what he hoped was a wall.

"Land? Jasper!" They couldn't have gotten far from him right. However far it was it was far enough that when the lights snapped back on they weren't right next to him.

When Shu fell out of her grasp, Mimsy did not expect for Lucky to be the cause of it. Despite the urge to scoop her up and retreat to some semblance of safety, her empty hand curled into a fist, and she made no move to react or retaliate in any capacity - excepting the frigid stare that was pointed in his direction.

"I hate you." She allowed her fingers to slip down the scarf, providing an inch more leeway that removed that inch of distance between Lucky and a very hungry Robert. "Look what you have done, Szczesony. Look at the state of the girl whose safety she has specifically requested."

Her cold eyes glanced towards Shu's form, before returning to him again.

"She will be so angry with you. This is your fault." Another inch of knit cloth passed beneath her fingertips. "I want another brother. Return to where you came from. I will ask for another. Then I will have another. This brother is faulty. And I hate him."

It wasn't particularly clear who she was talking to anymore, considering the way that she seemed to be looking through Lucky as if he did not exist. She continued to stare in such a way for a lengthy silence, before her attention shifted to Robert.

"I know," she reassured him, risking a quick kiss to his cheek. "I will feed you. Something good."

She may not have been looking at Lucky at all now, but the implication that he was a bad egg was probably fairly clear.

When the lights went out, and everything went crazy, the first thing Oliver could think to do was panic. His breath came in short gasps, and his heart felt like it would explode. He heard Lydia in the dark, she had found a flashlight, and left them. But in the occasional stream of light, other lucky hunters who had lights, and the glow from weapons, he could see more of the infected around them...

"Aro... please stay still..." He pleaded quietly, and stood there himself, frozen in place while the insanity went on around him. The only thing in his mind was the urgency that he not draw his weapon, or find any light which the infected might find him in.

And then after what felt like forever, the lights came back on. Oliver staggered against Arorangi, feeling so weak and light-headed he was afraid of passing out completely.
