"I wasn't," Alyse answered Miyuki's question, "but Timaeus did. By the time he came to bed it was nearly dawn. I can't sleep without him, and I can't sleep once the sun is up. So here I am."
She glanced over at Lin. "I'll just go to bed early tonight," she answered Lin's question after a brief pause. "Unless I completely crash before then, though with the sun up I doubt that."

"Do you need anything, just ask," Lin patted Alyse on the arm.
"I wonder if we have any coffee or tea," Miyuki murmured, and paused, "And when I say tea, I mean Gaian tea! That stuff wakes you up."
"Most blends anyways," Lin laughed.

"I can't remember the last time I had coffee," Luk mused, "though I'm not sure what you mean by tea. I've never heard of that in any form, Gaian or otherwise."
"Some drink they make with leaves in boiled water," River frowned. "It tastes funny."
"Usually we use it to sedate someone," Alyse added, "but Gaian tea is just drunk for pleasure, it doesn't have any effect on a body."
"Ah, we have those," Luk blinked in surprise. "Just by a different name, is all."

"I like it," Miyuki protested to River.
Of course Miyuki would like it, Lin had found much to her pride (and perhaps a bit of envy) that Miyuki could prepare tea with more grace than her.
Lin added, "If I could tell you the scientific name for tea leaves I would, but I don't know it. In my father's culture, tea has an important social role, and being able to prepare it right is a good skill to have."
She paused for a moment and then Lin asked.
"What do you call it?"

"Herbal drink," Luk replied with a chuckle. "We like to keep names simple. If you'd like, Alyse, I could probably prepare some for you.I may have some leaves left in my bag, and boiling water should be no problem."
"Thanks, Uncle Luk, but I'll be fine." Alyse smiled to show her appreciation. "Really."

"Do you know if everyone is up yet?" Lin asked Luk.
If people were, maybe they should start heading down for breakfast for something. Then they could start the day, even if she wasn't sure what would completely entail. Lin was always a bit lost on the first week or so of sailing.

"I seriously doubt it," Luk replied with a grimace. "Like Alyse said, it was nearly dawn when they finished loading the ship, we've only been out a few hours. Most people will probably end up sleeping half the day, I'm sure."
He looked thoughtful for a moment. "That said, we do need to know what's going on with breakfast," he added.
"I'll check the galley and see if Arwen is awake," Alyse offered, heading towards the stern to do just that.

Lin watched Alyse leave before commenting, "I wasn't awake when Earendil came in, but the fact he didn't wake up when I got out of bed was a bit telling."
Normally Earendil was up before her and she was always worried about waking him up if she got out first. Having wings didn't make it very easy to sneakily get out of bed.
".... I should maybe check on Andarien, he's been getting better about doing things on his own, but I don't want him heading to our room if Earendil is sleeping...."

Luk nodded. "Sounds good. I'm going to talk with my sister a while ... she looks troubled, I think."
He nodded to where Arthael was still standing at the rail and staring out at the ocean. She hadn't moved since he had come out, and he just wanted to make sure she was fine.

Lin went back down below and made a beeline for the room Andarien and Jess were sharing. Since Jess was already up, either Andarien was still sleeping (and after yesterday it wouldn't surprise her), or he was up tinkering since she hadn't run into him yet.
At least if he woke up, she hoped he wouldn't head directly to their room, Earendil had always struck her as a light sleeper compared to herself.
Once she made it to the room the boys were sharing she gave a soft and tentative knock.

Andarien was in the middle of being woken up by an energetic and impatient Eon. The Eevee was pouncing on Adarien and nuzzling his cheek, but Andarien's eyes just didn't seem to want to open very much. His eyelids were heavy, and he just didn't want to get up yet.
Then came the knock at the door, and Andarien knew that his time was up. Now he would have no choice but to get up.
"Ngg ... 'm'in," he mumbled into his pillow.

Lin could kind of hear Andarien mumble behind the door, though what he was saying was completely lost.
"Sounds like he still wants to sleep," she murmured
Quietly she cracked the door open to take a peek, because all she knew maybe Andarien would rather go back to sleep.

The moment the door was open, Eon bounded to the floor and butted it open further. He squeaked up at Lin, trying to get her to follow him, and ran back to Andarien's bunk. Andarien had a single bed to himself; Jess and Amalirahc shared the bunk beds on the other side of the cabin.
Andarien opened his eyes just a crack when he heard Eon squealing at him, and he blinked to clear his vision.
"Nana?" he slurred. "S'at you?"

"Yes," Lin was amused.
Mainly because Eon and Andarien were so different.
"Are you still sleepy?"
Maybe he was never a morning person for all she knew.

Andarien rubbed his eyes with both fists. "Uh huh," he mumbled. Then he pushed the blanket back and sat up. "Time for breffes'?" he asked groggily.
Eon was prancing around Andarien, squealing at him and telling him to get up.
"I'm gettin' up, I'm gettin' up," Andarien told Eon through a yawn.
