He wants to be like his dad, even if he is getting a late start on his fighting. He hates his elder sister for being daddy's favorite so now he's like daddy's shadow. Like all father/son relationships, they have their problems, but he really does love his daddy. Unlike his siblings, he didn't take to his mother's way of thinking or living. He took to the Stormborn like he was born in it, but that wasn't true. He's very full of himself and doesn't really have the credentials to back it up. The boy is still learning, after all.
