Lin thought about it for a moment, as in she really had to think about it because otherwise they didn't celebrate a lot, "There are birthdays, though... those have become more an informal thing and we have small get togethers but not full out parties."

For people's sanity really than anything else after having so many children it just became difficult to keep track of all the birthdays out there.

"There are other holidays I suppose but we don't generally celebrate those," Lin murmured, "Some of the young adults might have a prom or a dance to celebrate their finished with their education and ready to start whatever career they want, but.... I never really did that."

She had actually been on duty then even though she had been forced to dress up.

Earendil frowned softly. "I see. I know you've been keeping yourself busy with stuff, but ... maybe you should just let yourself relax and have fun sometimes. Even if you don't dress up ..."

Sure, he kept himself busy too, but he always made sure to go to the Festival, or celebrate Coronation Day. Even Haradhel had made time out eventually, and she was obsessed with training.

"I have fun... it's just often not at large gatherings or anything like that."

That was simply the way she was, the major family gatherings was fine for her, but she didn't want to go to large gatherings that were often filled with people her own age. Not when she saw how the last one turned out.

Earendil chuckled. "To be fair, your definition of fun usually involved lessons or training, or some kind of work," he teased her. "At least, that's what you claim to enjoy when you're at the palace."

The study door opened and Vergil poked his head out. It seemed he hadn't gone back to his studies after all. "Palace?" he asked, interested.

"I do other things besides train or learn," Lin protested.

Granted she couldn't quite explain Earendil the concept of movies (and even then she didn't understand the appeal), or explain about coffee shops and girl gossip. Actually there was a lot Lin couldn't explain, she had even taken up doll making for a while (but gave up because she had no patience for it).

Cindy giggled seeing that Vergil was back again, "I thought you were studying..."

Vergil looked as though he was tempted to stick his tongue out at Cindy, but he seemed to think better of it. "I wanna see a palace someday," he shrugged. "And if I can't see it I might as well hear about it, right?"

Earendil laughed at Lin. She wasn't doing a very good job of presenting her case, but either way, he was amused. Mostly that she would allow herself to get so riled up over it.

"Well, now that we're here and visiting, we both have time to relax and just enjoy ourselves," he grinned at her. "Though I do have to admit, personally, that I do prefer being busy somehow."

Not that that would be a terrible problem here, Miyuki would keep both of them occupied he was certain.

"And trying to get to every one possible here isn't busy?" Lin replied.

They had been going everywhere, the only reason why they hadn't gone to more places was because Miyuki had been getting grumpy.

"Besides," Donovan added, "With kids you're busy enough, and oh look they're trying to eat each other."

Well probably not eat as so much explore as Miyuki was trying to figure out Hope's wings, and Hope was trying to figure out Miyuki's ears which left Faith to try and figure out Miyuki's tail.

Earendil chuckled at that. "Still. They were doing that when we first arrived as well."

He looked up suddenly as the door opened and Shael stepped in, an empty basket in her hands. "Oh," she smiled warmly, looking around at everyone. "Visitors. I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting you or else I'd have been back sooner."

Earendil smiled at her. He didn't know her well, so he wasn't comfortable yet with just carrying on a conversation as though he did.

Lin grinned up at Shael, "Well to be fair we didn't tell you we were coming to visit today and I didn't know Mom and Dad would be visiting."

Donovan chuckled, "It's been a while since we've visited so we decided to come, besides we had until this moment had yet to meet Vergil."

And it would be a shame not to meet all of their grandchildren.

"It's good to see you again Shael," Kara waved at her.

"It's good to see you too, all of you," Shael beamed, setting the basket aside. "It's been a very long time since you've been here, especially here in the valley. You always go to the ranch and forget about us over here."

There was a sparkle in her hazel eyes that showed she was teasing them.

She looked over at Cindy. "Where is Vergil?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "I can't imagine him missing a visit of this size."

Cindy pointed over to where Vergil was listening in by the study door, "He was a bit frustrated because he had trouble understanding the difference between mother whacking father and us telling him not to hit people."

It came so naturally to her that she rarely thought about it, so she supposed for Vergil it must have been very frustrating.

"Forget about all of you? Never..." Donovan grinned.

"Oh, poor Vergil," Shael murmured, leaning against the wall since all of the seats were taken. "He doesn't take it well when he can't understand something. Actually, he seems to get frustrated easily at just about anything ..."

"Do not!" Vergil's voice came, muffled, through the door of the study.

"Social interaction is a bit harder to explain," Cindy admitted as she tried not to giggle at Vergil's protest.

It might explain why he was still like the way he was after all these years here.

"It probably didn't help that some of us found it funny," Kara looked at Donovan and then at Earendil.

Earendil chuckled. "I apologize, but I've never seen a child act in such a manner," he grinned. "It's just new to me. I mean ... yes, I grew frustrated when I had trouble understanding concepts, and I still get frustrated from time to time. But if we would ever act like that ... I don't even want to imagine what might have happened."

Spanks were not unheard of at the palace, nor was going to bed without dinner. Earendil had not been a stranger to punishment growing up, and he knew that was part of why he had turned out the way he had.

"The problem is, he's been alone most of his life," Cindy replied, "So he acts like a child but at the same time isn't quite a child if that makes any sense. Emotional and social aspects are just very difficult...."

Manners was only the tip of the surface really, a lot of their rules didn't make sense to someone like Vergil at times. Like not to eat with his sword for example.
