Dude, where the hang do we stand? Are we cool or what?
I sent you into a spiral of darkness and had the audacity to blame you for being cruel to me.
You broke some sad news to me that had to be said.
Hmmm..... confused

But, for the record, are Chuck Norris jokes challenging G-d?

Lumanny But, for the record, are Chuck Norris jokes challenging G-d? No. That's like saying: "Does telling Jewish jokes mean we're going against our religion?"

If you say so. I still feel guilty saying Chuck Norris Jokes.
It's like one of the jokes I created: There's a small village in the Phillipines where Chuck Norris is worshipped as a god. Then Chuck Norris went to space; There is now a colonoy in the Asteroid belt that worships him as a god.

Lumanny Am I not Jewish enough? I am incredibly reform even though my tastes have often slanted towards the conservative. In the Torah Story thread...Yeah. I don't know; Am I not a good enough Jew? I found out just how thick my Jewish roots are. I have ancestors who kept Kosher, who observed Shabbat. And according to legend I have some important Jewish ancestors... Generations of Jews survived despite prejudice and pressure to assimilate. They refused to recant their religion, even when immigrations were required. They were some serious Jews. They worrked hard to stay Jews and keep the religion alive through to the future. And the fruit of their survival? Me. And I don't even keep Kosher, keep Shabbat and the like. Yeah. You need to be as Jewish as you want to be. I live in Israel, as a secular Jew (known as "chiloni/t"), and I can tell you that I'm definitely proud of my roots. (Three out of four of my grandparents were kibbutzniks - two of them founders, and one escaped from Lebanon against his parents' wishes to live the kibbutz lifestyle.) The kibbutzniks, who at first held a completely secular socialist point of view, did more to build this country and to found it on Judaism than any rabbi out there. Ben Gurion and Herzl and many, many other Zionist leaders were secular or non-observant, but noone contests to them being good enough Jews (except maybe the crazy ultra-Orthodox, but I'll get to that in a sec.) Judaism is about more than just the religion, there's a rich culture that goes back hundreds, if not thousands, of years. As for these "better Jews", I wouldn't want to ever live with them. I certainly hope you don't wake up every morning to say the traditional prayer in thanks to God for not making you a woman, heavenforbid! I've seen settlers do some pretty horrible things in the name of our religion, and I've seen some of Israel's most revered rabbis say and do ridiculous things. That being said, I also have relatively observant friends and I get along with them pretty well. They don't condemn me for my secularism, and I don't condemn them for their observance. We both have mutual respect for the fact that we observe our Judaism in different ways. Do what you like. The people and the religion will accomodate you, and there will always be someone more extreme. ETA: Also, about the assimilation. If there's anything WWII has taught us, it's that it doesn't matter. You're considered a Jew whether you assimilated or whether you walked around with a shtreiml.

But, still, I feel as though I call myself a Jew when I don't deserve the title. I don't work at all as hard to be a devoted Chosen Person as other Jews. Are they the real Jews? I'm too assimilated.
