:walking into the city:
I like it here, and I think I wil make it my own!
Before the man could do anything else, a squad of soldiers from the Lamentian Guard, always stationed at the city's entrances, showed up, and took positions around him, weapons aimed towards him, armaments at the ready...

You!! Cease and desist your actions this instant! Hands on your head, NOW.

This is your only warning! You make any other movement other than those directed, you will be shot...

The Captain gave his order, and the Guard were ready to fire... But how did they know he was here? How did they know he was about to use a magical attack?!

Defenses
Magic Detecting Units (MDU’s)-
These tiny sensors are scattered across the city in various locations and appear to look like tiny silver smoke detectors, and due to their locations inside buildings and along structures, they are often mistaken as such. Each sensor detects any magic use within a radius of thirty feet from the sensors. If the city is in Lockdown or under any other kind of military action, the sensors are activated and serve to alert ground troops to the location of the magical use. The target the sensors pick up can be tracked with a special device often carried by military personnel during military movements, and the detectors let out a loud alarm when exposed to magic in the area of effect allowing for tracking of targets without the device at hand.

Did this man really want to contend with a large group of soldiers, each with their rifles aimed right at him?

*Laughing is all this creature could do as he was being surrounded*
Do you think that I would be taken down so easy? I have come to speak to the one called Victor bring him to me and this all could stop...*this creature spoke out, my name is Internal_D and I must find out if the rumors I have heard are true...with that calling his dragon back to him. If you dear fire at me, my dragon will kill you all, laughing again and then yells for the one called Victor!*

*Laughing is all this creature could do as he was being surrounded*

D-
Before he could speak, bullets shot towards the man, and a few MDG's were tossed.

Quote:
MDG's or Magic Diffusion Grenades.

These grenades act in much the same way as the Magic Diffusion Mines mentioned below. When they explode, they disrupt the flows of magical energy in targets, preventing them from using magical energies, abilities, or effects for a time period of roughly four to five hours. These grenades explode on contact with an object after the pin is pulled whether the object is the target in question or the ground. They explode with a radius of 25 feet from the center of the blast, though the energy field itself does no damage to regular biological targets. Magical or undead beings are killed or dispelled immediately by the field of energy.

At that close a range, the bullets would be hitting him before he could even blink, and the detonation of the MDG's would prevent any magical attacks being used by this man. This sad fate could have easily been avoided if he'd bothered to listen to the guards' warnings

*Before ever bullet could hit this creature his dragon had taken most of then and now he lays there breathing hard and reaching for his beast...*

I may bleed and I may die this creature yells but I still wish to speak to the one called Victor!

*The dragon that would give his life for his master at that moment sat in front wrapping his tail around Internal_D keeping guard over him*

There is no one here by that name! Now cease, desist and leave this place or we'll fire another volley! We've no tolerance for those that attack our city!

The officer spoke and the other guards stood ready with their rifles aimed towards the wounded pair. It was clear these creatures were hostile, and it was their duty to uphold the peace and protect their home from attack.

((Lament doesn't take attackers lightly. Victor or whoever really isn't here.))

*spitting up blood and speaking at the same time*
Then do you know of the one called Vahn?
*this creature grabbing the side of his beast preparing to take off into the sky*
If you know of the one called Vahn inform him that I look for not only Victor but of him as well.

If you speak of Vahn Kyonuske, he often can be found at the Leviathan Stadium. But next time, try asking before you turn hostile... Now, please leave.

The guards continued to keep a bead on the man as he made ready to leave. They didn't wish to have him suddenly start attacking again. He'd brought his pain upon himself by his actions. The guards were simply carrying out their orders...

Then you do know of who I speak of, and thank you for telling me of where to find him....I am sorry for releasing my beast upon your city yet was told if I was to find Victor I most make myself known and he would come to me...but at the same time I needed to speak to Vahn...so for now I will take my leave but I will return to this Dark City but not as I did this time.

*spitting blood and holding his side this creature grabs onto his beast and takes off into the yell not before yelling*

Tell Vahn I am coming for him and to be ready, for I have much to speak to him about!

And life goes on.

He was fortunate enough that the new security teams had not been set up yet- otherwise, he'd have been treated a bit harsher than that. In any event, the construction work continued as scheduled after a bit of a ruckus, though there was quite a bit of talk about the dragon afterwards.

Dawn was thinking about dragons more than anything else of late as she went through the final code inspection. She should have been chewing her nails over whether or not the inspector found faults that would set the project back and leave her with horrible problems to fix.

Luckily Dawn's lack of attention was more a fact of being confident in the work of her team than a serious problem in the making!

The code inspection went off without any big hitches...and for a building of this size that was almost a miracle!

Dawn beamed happily as the inspector signed off on her creation and she was given the go ahead to put in all her finishing touches and officially open the building to the non hard hat wearing public!

After moving in all the furniture and cleaning up the mess, all that was left was the Atrium at the top of the tower!

And then, they came.

After the furniture and desks were moved in and the lights were installed, it was time for the basement levels. Sophisticated equipment came rolling into the Inner City two days after Evan and his inspection team had left, and it all went straight into the cargo elevator located in the parking garage. What went on down there in the second floor basement was anyone's guess, but the first basement level was definitely research and development.

With that said, the building would most likely be completely ready in seven days tops...

It was finished.

A cheer rose from the workers as the lights in the building were activated; power to the building was running smoothly. Air conditioning, computer stations, equipment, everything was running normally. They had done a fine job on what looked now like a fine building instead of a heap of steel and concrete. The two apartment buildings in the Inner City looked splendid, and the Outer City looked good as new. Perhaps even better.

Phase One was complete, and all thanks to Dawn.

And they call that a train?

He said, looking entirely confused.

Yes sir, they were invented hundreds of years ago...

Maximos slid the man gold, the man slid back a City Map. It was after all what he had requested before this conversation began. Along with the map, he was receiving a suspicious gaze.

...what kind of person doesnt even know what a train is...?

The cashier asked, his hand sliding to the edge of the table and beginning to slip under. Maximos didnt need his eye, he could practical feel the fear and suspicion.

You'll have to excuse me, I...

His eyes rolled up and to the right, though it was hidden by the darker part of his sunglasses. To add to the lie, he cringed as if he'd seen a spider or something above him.

...'ve been on a train before, of course, I've just never been on one so extravagant, that woman at Latent was right, its worth every penny! Its hard to believe, I'm accustomed to something far less...

The hand slid back onto the table. And the cashier seemed proud of his work as Maximos talked it up.

...well far less. That woman...Diane was it? I'll have to thank her..

Maximos slipped his map into his pocket.

Well, good day sir!

And he was off, and up, and out of the train station. In the sun, he opened his map and started trying to make heads or tails of it.

Tea...tea...I wonder what Mr. Damrius wants...what does be up mean?

He folded the map, having found the spot and tucked it away.

I should pick up some Lamentian Green while I'm here...

And off he went.

Damrius walked through the crowded streets, making his way for the tea shop he had suggested him and the Reaper meet at. Maximos, dumbass! he mentally chastised himself. He scratched his chest, remembering...

Nevermind that.

He walked through the streets, his eyes occasionally flickering towards the guards, sometimes lingering longer on the ones he wondered about. How many of them were...? No, no... He couldn't allow his mind to drift off into fantasies about men in uniform. He could do that some other time, on his free time. For now, he was late for a date with an old friend.

He kept walking through the streets, his black peacoat wrapped about him tightly, his gloves on, his sunglasses on - despite the clouds - and moved towards this tea shop. Why Tea? Why, what else would two friends have on a day like this? A beer? no, That was not what two elegant dancers/friends had for a good brunch.

Damrius started humming a tune, that of Shair - 'Beleive in Love' - and started walking down the street. No weapons, for once! it was amazing how much easier it was to move in a city without weaponry to hold him down.

"Mmmm... I'm thinking... lemon with a hint of ginger tea..."

And onward!
PostPosted: Fri Apr 25, 2008 12:41 am

Now Max had a sense for these type of things, tea, expensive coffee, cake, the like. And quickly enough he found what he was looking for. He ordered a cup, and a box of the famed Lamentian Green, and was content to sit outside the tea shop, with a bright "nothing can go wrong today" smile.

This made several guards very suspicious and earned Maximos very many stares, as well as very many suspicious passes of the same guard. And so, his smile was quickly dulled down to a lesser "well at least this tea is good" smile. Which seemed to match the locals.

How these people lived under such scrutiny, he would never know. How they lived underground, he would know even less. He'd met several underground cultures, and while Maximos himself lived both above and under ground, he could not live without the sunlight, or more specifically moonlight.

Either way his foot swayed back and forth, tapping out a rhythm as he waited, and slowly savored this slice of key lime pie.

Though, the tapping stopped at the mention of "suspicious noise pollution".
